Bloody Mtn. from the southeast.  Sucess!

From Dorothy Lake to Genevieve Lake then left the trail at the last upper switchback where it veers sharply east, then went west xc up to the NE ridge and followed it to the summit. The ridgeline had great views and a decent use trail. Descended about 1700 ft. in an almost perfect scree chute directly to Genevieve Lake on the return.

NE Ridge starting from Sherwin Creek Road  Sucess!

The views beginning at the Bloody/Laurel saddle were impressive! I would not say this route has "too much slate" for it to be fun. There is only about 300 ft. of loose terrain above the saddle and can be avoided easily. However, getting the to the TH via Laurel Lakes Road is now my gold standard of unpleasant approaches; it is literally 4 1/2 miles of ankle twisting up a road that you have to share with good-spirited off-roaders who will stop and and ask questions like: "why are you walking?", "is everything okay?", "did your car break down?", "do you need some water?"; they will be unaware by the way you are dressed that you are going up deliberately. If you don't have a bomb proof HIGH clearance vehicle with serious tires, start from Convict Lake. I saw no less than two people struggling with tire blowouts (Toyota Tacoma, Ford Silvarado) and saw some impressive scrapes and oil stains on some of the bigger rocks.

From Laurel-Bloody saddle  Sucess!

There is a use trail almost all the way to the summit from the saddle. Windy day. Nice views. The crux was driving up Laurel Lakes road. Trip report

NE Ridge from Sherwin Creek road  Sucess!

I didn't have a high clearance vehicle, and had to do it on foot from the 'desert floor' (it certainly felt like desert on the way back)! Ten hours round trip for me, but if you are younger, you can knock off an hour or three from the total time. Once you reach the ridge of the mountain from the Laurel Pass, a use trail guides you all the way to the top. Many signatures in the register this year: looks like a very popular peak.

NE Ridge from Laurel Pass  Sucess!

I think the drive took as long as the hike? Slowly made our way up the Laurel Lakes road in our 4x4 pickup. Fourth time in here, and it's just as gnarly as ever. Parked by the lakes, then hiked back along the road to the trailhead. Followed the trail to Laurel Pass, then followed the E ridge to the summit. Some enjoyable ridge scrambling in between sections of loose shale. Not super enjoyable, but the views more than make up for the terrain. Fantastic!

Bloody Awesome Name  Sucess!

From Laurel Canyon up the NE ridge. Almost ran out of gas driving up Laurel Canyon road. Didn't anticipate my mad 4x4 road driving skillz were in need of massive honing. Sweet views for not much effort (hiking, that is).

Northeast Ridge  Sucess!

Climbed Cathedral Peak in Tuolumne Meadows in the morning, then hiked Bloody Mountain as a side trip on the drive home. The hiking on the NE ridge is nothing to write home about, but the views off of each side of the ridge are spectacular and we all really enjoyed this peak.

There was a SAR in progress on Laurel Mountain and we talked to a few of the SAR members who were searching Laurel's SW side. On our drive out, we saw the same SAR members who told us two climbers got cliffed out and spent Saturday night on Laurel, but were hoisted out by helicopter on Sunday afternoon. We heard the chopper, but couldn't see any of the action from Bloody's NE ridge.

North Couloir - Right Fork  Sucess!

Climbed this route later in the year with a team of six from SMG. From base camp (Laurel lakes), it took us about 3 hrs to summit and 2 hrs to descend the NW ridge. At the time the couloir was still in good shape and made for a good steep climb. Overall, this was a great trip. The road leading into Laurel canyon IS as rough as everyone says. You most definitely need a reliable 4WD vehicle with a good amount of ground clearance and good tires to tackle this beast. We used a 2001 Durango and a later model Ford F350 Super Duty to get in and out.

Bloody Couloir  Sucess!

Drove almost to the switchbacks. Climbed the looker's left side of the couloir behind a party of five who camped at Laurel Lakes the night before. Skied the looker's right side of the rock islands on soft snow. Great summit views.

Flat tire...  Sucess!

Took the very scenic drive up the 4x4 road following Laurel Creek. Got a flat on the rocks turning around at the trailhead. Went ahead for the easy dayhike, fixed the flat at the end.
