Palmer's Agave (Agave palmeri) is a perennial succulent native
to Arizona, southern New Mexico and northern Mexico. In central AZ,
Palmer's Agaves grow at elevations between 3000 and 6000 feet (914 and
1829 meters) in mountain foothills and oak woodlands.
With their towering, up to 20 foot (6 meters) tall flower stalks,
Palmer Agaves are quite conspicuous and easy to spot when they're
blooming here in summer. I spotted this golden-flowered Palmer's
Agave in mid-July, blooming above the TH parking to the Stewart Pocket
area southeast of Payson, Arizona.
