Blue Mtns

Blue Mtns

The Wenaha-Tucannon wilderness as seen from Diamond Peak. The ridgelines in this terrain tend to be fairly gentle but the slopes and drainages are often moderately steep. Because of this many of the roads of the Umatilla NF follow ridges rather than valleys which is the opposite of how it usually is in Western Washington. The lack of modulation in ridgelines also leads to a paucity of prominence peaks with only Oregon Butte (WA), Table Rock (WA) and Mt. Emily (OR) having 1000 feet of clean prominence among peaks of the Blue Mtn range.
