Bonanza Peak  Sucess!

Quick hike up Bonanza. Beautiful day, saw some elk which I was surprised to find lived up there.

From Cold Creek  Sucess!

to the summit on the Bonanza Trail w/ Maddie. Great hike in the thick, piney air. I would like to take it further next time, to one of the surrounding peaks!

Great day in the mountains  Sucess!

The drive on the dirt road was fun, saw lots of horses. The hike was nice, though breezy, especially on the ridge near the top. Unique view of the Spring Mountains. We'll be back one day to climb Willow. Very small amount of snow on the trail, should be gone in a couple weeks.

Also, we searched for a fair bit and found no summit register.

Again on 9/8/18, out of Cold Creek. 1:40 up, 3:17 total.

Bonanza Trail

Knowing I'll be cooped up in conference rooms, bars and restaurants for business the next several days, I rented a convertible Mustang and headed up to Bonanza Peak! Enjoyed the wild horses to and from the trailhead and had no problems getting the low slung Mustang to the parking lot. The flies were terrible and the heat was intense - I literally had sweet dripping from my pigtails onto my kneecaps - but the hike was lovely! The views from the top of this peak exceeded my expectations. Enjoyed lunch at the top and called the BF before heading back down for a business cocktail reception.

Ran to the summit  Sucess!

Ding some training for the Pikes Peak Ascent while in Vegas for a conference, I ran to the summit up the Bonanza Trail. I hit a lot of snow patches on the north-facing valleys and got my feet soaked so I had some hot spots by the time I got back to the trailhead. Nice run even though I live at sea level and my lungs burned at times.

Relief from the heat  Sucess!

This was the first of three times up here last summer. An easy, enjoyable peak with fine views. Wild horses, the occasional elk, and had the mountain otherwise to ourselves.

First NV peak  Sucess!

First peak since moving to Vegas. Lots of beautiful views, and I got to see wild horses for the first time. I realized I need to get used to this altitude though. Looking forward to my next hike.

Fresh Tracks  Sucess!

Climbed this peak on Veteran's Day, plenty of fresh snow on the trail, I made the only footprints visible. Around 2" of snow at the trailhead, with as much as 6" at the upper elevations. Slightly tricky due to the snow, but I still managed to make it to the summit. Lost that trail twice near the peak, but was able to gauge where the peak was so I just blazed a trail. Partially lost my tracks on the way back due to gusty winds, but managed to find my way back to the saddle. I was the only person who hiked there that day!

from Bonanza TH  Sucess!

Hiked this one with Steven Stembridge, Gonzalo Domenech, and Kody Seastrunk. Perfect weather. Ed, Kody's dad, made it 80% of the way up but turned around to follow us when we were headed down.

Trail Run  Sucess!

The trail up from Cold Creek turned out to be perfectly runnable. Made it to the top in just over an hour. Great day that got a little bit hot on the way down.

Blistlecone-Bonanza  Sucess!

Started hiking from upper Blistlecone trail head. First 2.5 - 3 miles had lots of snow on the trail especially on Bonanza trail.
I bag the McFarland peak on the way back to the trail head.
21.5 mile, 6,300 ft total elevation gain. about 11 hours to complete.

Bonanza!  Sucess!

Hiked up a relentless series of switchbacks on the Bonanza Trail. Saw the horsies on the way in and heard the coyotes howling as sunset approached on the descent. A fine workout for someone who lives at an elevation of about 300 feet!

Bonanza Trailhead  Sucess!

Carried DayHikerJr (age 12 months) to the top. The sign at the trailhead said 4 miles, but it was really 4.7. No big deal, unless you're carrying a 20-pound baby!

Oh yeah!  Sucess!

Val accompanied me on my first altitude hike after my brain damage. It was like a rebirth.

A year later Nick N accompanied me on the traverse to McFarland, then down N Canyon and back to car.

Bonanza Peak to McFarland Peak Traverse  Sucess!

The traverse of the ridge between Bonanza Peak and McFarland Peak was the best part of the hike. Great vistas and good scrambling on very solid rock. We descended via North Canyon and went to look for elk on the way back to Bonanza trailhead, but only saw their prints. It came down to about 12 miles with 4000+ feet of elevation gain.

From south via Bristlecone Trail / Spring Mtn Divide trail  Sucess!

Birthday hike out of Lee Canyon, after my original plans for Zion were canceled by rain. No views from the summit, but some nice views from the trail along the way. Birds chirping and no sign of anyone else out there. Unspectacular but pleasant all the same.
