1st Ascent  Sucess!

Came up with the idea the night before, attempted fast ascent. Up and down in about 4 hours.

Day hike after the 1983 earthquake  Sucess!

When trying to reach the trailhead the earthquake had left an 8 or 10 foot scarp across the road. It was all my little Datsun 210 could do to make it up and over the scarp. The hike was a medium workout. Great views from the summit.

Borah Peak: Normal Route  Sucess!

Great mountain with beautiful views. A short part is a little bit airy and we had to cross a couloir with some snow. My 6th US State High point.

Roof of Idaho  Sucess!

My first legit mountain a couple years ago! Air quality was marginal and there was definitely a thin layer of smoke on the horizon obscuring views and making breathing even harder, but still pretty spectacular. The hardest part for me was downclimbing the 20' drop off COR - yes, it's short, but impossible to see your footholds. (I hear at least this year someone left a rope to make it easier on fellow climbers, which would have been nice.) The long scree slog past COR to the summit shouldn't be taken lightly either. Worth it for the accomplishment once but no desire to do Borah again anytime soon, there are way prettier mountains in Idaho!

Friday the 13th summit  Sucess!

Wonderful day for a summit, a little bit of new snow from last few days on chicken-out ridge and summit. Scrambling was fun, the one scarier more exposed downclimb had a rope attached to rocks which was useful but not absolutely necessary.

Finally did it!  Sucess!

Finally summited this peak! Not as hard as what most have told me. I may be the first to claim to have eaten cake on top of this peak.

Long day  Sucess!

Started up at dawn. I think half the weight we carried was water. Took it slow and easy. Had great weather and great views. Got down as shadows were getting long.

Great climb  Sucess!

Did the traditional route, with a bit of snow going across the face of the 'false summit'. Once on the face of Borah, kept moving in the northward direction with some visual markers (stone piles) helping to guide the way as parts of the trail were still covered with snow.

Idaho's tallest  Sucess!

Loved this climb, steep and tough but worth it!

Snowboard descent down west face  Sucess!

Snow climb up COR. 2 skiers were up there the day before. Their tracks were the only sign of another party summiting this season. A fun ride and great adventure!

HP #37!  Sucess!

Chicken-out ridge ain't so bad.

My big suggestion for anyone who wishes to climb this mountain... train with 1. stairs and 2. light rock climbing and you'll be fine.

Cold  Sucess!

First peak I did, went up with my friend Joe. My hands felt like they were going to freeze off at one point, but luckily we had some hand warmers to save the day

Standard Route  Sucess!

Cruised up this one. Wind blew in lots of smoke. No snow cover yet. Love the geology of the area. Saw around a couple dozen others on the mountain and someone else that appeared to be headed towards a neighboring peak. I don't think I was ever on the ridge. Just followed a trail/route below it most of the way. Not sure if I followed the route properly?

First summit with my kids!  Sucess!

The weather was perfect and my company was pretty amazing as well!!! So proud of my kids, Hunter is 11 and Scarlett is 8. They crushed this mountain and are now begging to do the Grand in Wyoming!
The route was clear (no snow yet) and pretty easy to follow. We went slow through chicken out ridge, it’s not to difficult but has a little bit of exposure so it was pretty exciting for the kids!

Smoky and steep  Sucess!

Weather was a bit smoky. Chicken Out Ridge (COR) isn't that bad if the weather is cooperating. It's just scary if you aren't used to exposure because it is a knife edge. Getting down the 20 foot drop from COR is harder than going back up. However, it wasn't too bad. The trail was pretty good for a peak this size. Made it 4 hours and 10 minutes. Would have beat 4 hours, but I had to stop for 20 minutes to help other team members get down COR.

HP#31  Sucess!

Only 8-9 other people on the mountain on July 4th, which surprised me. COR is not an issue unless you are a newby to this hiking/scrambling thing. My piece of advice would be this: the last 6-700 feet up to summit stay on the ridge as much as possible. Going up and down. The other sections below are just straight misery! Great day, lots of scrambling, and a nice reward for a well-earned high point.

HP #26  Sucess!

Crowded, but a nice day...saw some peeps using ropes on chicken out ridge, not necessary if you skirt to the left on a obvious trail
