Just beat the smokeMy friend Morgan and I drove down from Missoula and camped at the trailhead Friday night. People were loud and rowdy all the way till 1am. Then cars started to nonstop drive in starting at 3am. Not a great nights sleep. Climbed chicken out ridge route, which was quite easy. 3.5 hours to the summit, 5.5 hours RT. Probably 50 people summited that day, definitely a popular mountain. First state highpoint!

Road trip blitzFast climb after an overnight storm. Turned out fine: relatively fast climb (4:40 RT) with perfect weather and just 2 other parties of 2.

First 12erStandard route. This was my first 12er and wasn't sure what to expect, it was a fun exhausting day! COR was sketchy but alot of fun, this kicked off my quest to do all the Idaho 12ers.

Pride of Idaho...I climbed this with my bro and our friend from Boise. Camped at the trailhead and left at 5am. There was still a good amount of snow on Chickenout Ridge, which made for several interesting snow crossings. Several parties we spoke with turned around there. Beautiful weather and views from the summit. Back at the car by 1:30pm, even with a nice slow descent.

Borah05/09/20 w/Ryan Stadheim. Spring ascent of chicken-out ridge. Lots of fun! Skied from the summit of Point 11,308 the following day after seeing its north face from the ridge

Day hike after the 1983 earthquakeWhen trying to reach the trailhead the earthquake had left an 8 or 10 foot scarp across the road. It was all my little Datsun 210 could do to make it up and over the scarp. The hike was a medium workout. Great views from the summit.

Borah Peak: Normal RouteGreat mountain with beautiful views. A short part is a little bit airy and we had to cross a couloir with some snow. My 6th US State High point.

Roof of IdahoMy first legit mountain a couple years ago! Air quality was marginal and there was definitely a thin layer of smoke on the horizon obscuring views and making breathing even harder, but still pretty spectacular. The hardest part for me was downclimbing the 20' drop off COR - yes, it's short, but impossible to see your footholds. (I hear at least this year someone left a rope to make it easier on fellow climbers, which would have been nice.) The long scree slog past COR to the summit shouldn't be taken lightly either. Worth it for the accomplishment once but no desire to do Borah again anytime soon, there are way prettier mountains in Idaho!

Friday the 13th summitWonderful day for a summit, a little bit of new snow from last few days on chicken-out ridge and summit. Scrambling was fun, the one scarier more exposed downclimb had a rope attached to rocks which was useful but not absolutely necessary.

Finally did it!Finally summited this peak! Not as hard as what most have told me. I may be the first to claim to have eaten cake on top of this peak.

Long dayStarted up at dawn. I think half the weight we carried was water. Took it slow and easy. Had great weather and great views. Got down as shadows were getting long.

Great climbDid the traditional route, with a bit of snow going across the face of the 'false summit'. Once on the face of Borah, kept moving in the northward direction with some visual markers (stone piles) helping to guide the way as parts of the trail were still covered with snow.

Snowboard descent down west faceSnow climb up COR. 2 skiers were up there the day before. Their tracks were the only sign of another party summiting this season. A fun ride and great adventure!
