Great weather for the climb. Kudos to S&R out of MacKay, helping that poor gentleman who thought it was a good idea to climb with a colostomy bag, over-nighted with no gear.
One of my most favorite climbs of all time. The first section up to COR was quite steep, although the worst part was the relentless mosquitos. COR was quite fun. The rock was nice and solid. I really enjoyed this peak. The weather was beautiful. I would love to come back and climb Leatherman Peak
Cramped up terribly 1/3 way up COR. This was my first peak attempt.....nice one to pick. I'll be back to tackle this one.
Climbed this one weekend with a good friend up the normal trail. Not sure on the exact date as I didn't have good records at the time. It was a great time, but as it was 10 years ago don't recall much except the fact we took a wrong turn on Chicken Out and got to see some rocks go over.
so we basically had the mountain to ourselves. a great day!
I have no idea how I ended up here again. I have one more 12er left.
I took my brother's family up by request. Enjoyed it quite a bit, though.
This was one of those days where it alternates between quite nice (in the lee of the wind) to very chilly and "am I going to get blown off this thing?"
Up in 5 hours on first attempt. Excellent mountain!
Awesome Climb, the pics on the net don't do it justice. My friend really wanted to go and my wife and I were reluctant. His enthusiasm was not containable and so we went and we were so pleasantly surprised! What an amazingly fun hike and truly beautiful. Do this hike, you'll remember it forever.
Camped at the trailhead the night before. Up at 5:15 am, on the trail by 6:20 am. On the peak at 9:50 am. Hung out on top for about an hour eating and taking in the views. Down by 2 pm.
Besides some post holing on approach, a quick decent down a steep face because of lightning, losing trekking poles and wands, and my Sunto watch taking a turn for the worse. Had a fantastic climb!
Fun to get a peak away from my normal home ranges. Second State high point. Definitely steep, descent was a knee buster, but we took it really quickly.
Our first time on Borah and we were not dissapointed. Great hike and great views at the top.
Fun day out. Chicken out ridge wasn't really bad. To me the sketchiest part was the downclimb to the snowbridge.
SAR was called out while we were on the mountain. Another hiker made some very poor decisions and was benighted near the summit with just a t-shirt and jeans. Very disoriented the next morning.
dayhike, and Chicken Out Ridge definitely thins out the masses! Pretty straightforward class 3 sections...provided you leave early enough to avoid getting stuck behind some people that get sketched out.
Truly unreal lightning storms the night prior while camping at the trailhead, lightning was striking all around the camping area at a rate of about one flash per second, I'd never seen anything like it in my life, there was certainly a mild sense of panic amongst campers that evening!
Woke up early the next morning and hit the trail at 4:30, summited around 8:00 and back down just as the lightning restarted around 11:30. I noticed in the two days I spent at the trailhead lots of people up on the high ridges during the lightning storms... madness!
Was snowed off this mountain sept 1st, 2008 at the 11.4K mark.
Sketchy crossing the snow couloir so early in the morning w/o axe or crampons... were first on the summit this day. Perfect weather and a great hike.
After living in Idaho for most of my life I've finally climbed Borah. It took us 13 hours due to some snow obstacles that made us exercise our route finding skills through some scary terrain. The views were of course astounding. The pain in my legs after the climb was also astounding. What a great mountain!
Solo via Chicken-Out Ridge, which didn't make me cluck or lay an egg. Nice views from the top...a good climb. I would say, however, that while Borah is higher, Leatherman Peak, a bit farther south, is much more formidable-looking, at least from the highway. Hope to get back there and try it some day.
First attempt - we couldn't find the exact route and had to turn back. The second attempt - we found the route, and had a stunning path to the top. Worth the return trip to this area.
