Incredible weather  Sucess!

With Michelle. Easy hike, great views, total solitude. What did I see from the summit? That there is a HELL of a lot of ski lines still in condition. I'll give you one guess as to what my plan is for tomorrow… Now THIS is Colorado!

Second time up, with Volz BM and PT 12700 B via a loop tour from Selkirk Gulch. Nice south ridge route on this one from 11,000' to loop the 12ers or if one wanted a little longer day than the standard ascent from the pass.

Boreas  Sucess!

Shaylee and Kimberly stayed behind at the Section House, while Kessler and I went for a climb of 13,082’ (3987 meter) Boreas Mountain. We had left our snowshoes at the hut, but it was evident that this was a mistake since we were potholing on the lower slopes.

As we climbed higher and higher, the wind got stronger and was an estimated 40-50 mph up high, with a few gusts of 60 mph. It was quite cold, but not too extreme considering that we were up at 13,000 feet in January.

The summit area of the mountain was quite interesting with a long, flat and shallow valley on top of the mountain. We made our way to the SE part of the massif where it was obvious that the highest summit was located.

It was sunny, but very windy and Kessler had trouble standing up in the high winds. It had taken us three hours to reach the summit. We hunkered down and lay down in the wind shelter on top to eat our lunch. The views were fantastic and we could see all the way to Pikes Peak on the east, Quandary, Lincoln, Bross, and all the Tenmile Range on the west (Quandary Peak is especially impressive from this angle), all the way to the Crestones on the South and all the way to the Gore Range on the north. Regrettable, we had left our camera home on this trip.

After lunch we descended the mountain. We slid down the snow part way and were moving very quickly. It only took us an hour to descend to the Section House where we met Kimberly and Shaylee.

Boreas Pass  Sucess!

Hiked with my flatlander parents and our dogs. We enjoyed the great views and wildflowers. No wind at the top, but the rain rolled in on our way down. We had the mountain to ourselves, but the parking lot was packed on our return.
