Boulder in Little Seneca Lake

Boulder in Little Seneca Lake

While scouting the shore of Little Seneca Lake for a good sunset location I noticed this elegant rock emerging from the water. I carefully set up my tripod in shallow water, then settled down with a book and hoped for some good lighting on Mount Lester. This shot was taken with a 2-stop graduated neutral density filter. A two second exposure softened the ripples on the lake’s surface. August, 2007.

Re: It

Thanks! I wanted to keep my pack weight down and really had to think hard about lugging the DSLR, tripod, and filters back in there. As it turned out I'm glad I did. I still kept the weight down to a managable 35 pounds or so at the start of the trip, including full water bottles and 6 days of food.

Re: It

that's a dilemna for sure. I would love a DSLR but all that extra weight and equipment with an already overloaded pack...but then I see photos like yours and know that maybe I can carry just a bit more...
