well, the book we were working out of was seriously out of date. No signs or trail-head, in fact no trails except those made by the wild horses. Compass and map very useful. It was a high elevation desert cross country trek that took us past mountain mahogany and pines and rugged rock out-croppings. Only other climbers were a small herd of wild horses, seen in the distance.

Great dayhike with Dean. No one else was on the mountain on a gorgeous day.

Beautiful, clear day, but with a fierce and unrelenting wind. Steep trail after the saddle, but worth the effort. Couldn't find the register at top. Bummer.

We had nearly perfect weather to start the day, but clouds kept building in. This kept the temperature nice and cool and the rain didn't start till we were almost at the car.

This was a fun challenging hike, although I did get a pretty bad case of altitude sickness at about 12,000 ft. The last 1,000 was pure hell and the only thing that kept me going was knowing that I did not want to come back to get this one. I lost my lunch of Clif bars on top, to the amusement of my climbing buddy, Brandon Nielson. A storm was blowing in, so we made a quick descent. On to Whitney (See trip report)

Perfect day, no wind on top and what a stellar view of all the Nevada and Sierra peaks. Fellow Sp'er Dennis went on and did Montgomery. I was amazed to see no one else on this fantastic day.

This was our first outing with the LVMC. Started out with "guided" group, but leader fell out at last minute, adding adventure to remaining team, none of whom had any prior experience with summit or area. Incredibly dry and warm for elevation. Rugged desert topo/geo, so unlike our familiar Cascade and Wallowa summits. Camped at 9K under Mars closest approach to earth in humankinds lives. A totally windless summit day put us on top at an extremely slow , stop and smell the roses pace of 7 hours, while some of our group were on top in < 4. Scree surfed off the NE summit ridge and returned to camp in 2.5 hours. All in all, a wonderful weekend for wife, I and the LVMC in the high Nevada.

Climbed with ScottyS on a day featuring ferocious winds, low clouds, and scattered snow flurries. Cruised over the top, down to the saddle, and then up to Montgomery. On the way back from Montgomery, we went over the top again.

June 24, 2007: Summited again as the last peak of a dayhike traverse from the White Mountain Peak trailhead to the Queen Canyon trailhead for Boundary. Long day, but well worth it.

Route Climbed: Queen Canyon ridge trail Date Climbed: December 6, 2003  Sucess!

Dayhiked on a crazy winter day with bearbnz. Left Bridgeport around 0515 and started hiking around 7-ish. An oncoming storm was forecast to dump a lot of snow on the Sierra starting that night, so we had to move fast. In spite of carrying a little more gear than normal, we got to the summit in 3-something hours. After being convinced to go after Montgomery in spite of lowering clouds and increasing winds, I suddenly remembered why I avoid buying cold-weather gear. The return trip down the mountain involved the highest winds I have hiked in since Nevado de Colima --- find a big rock and hang on! Got back to the highway before dark even....

My first Big One. Trail is steep from the Saddle. Had doubts about making it to the top. Thank God for second wind. A real beauty. Trail is not as bad as people make it out to be.

Found directions off of the web and decided to give it a shot. we finally got to the trail head around 1 am. got up early the next day and headed off for the summit. Somewhere along the way we got off the main trail and ended up going up the bowl. It is nothing but a 13,140 foot pile of scree. Even VW size boulders would move on us. Made the summit early morning and enjoyed beautiful views all around. Made it back down and back to Reno before dark.

Left for trail canyon saddle, climbed steeply to the ridge on the southeast side well before reaching saddle. I liked the variation. Not a cloud in the sky and I had the mountain to myself...all day.

ScottyS and I did this as a conditioning hike for the big plans we had for the rest of the summer. Hiked up Trail Canyon, through lots of snow, and summited in ~4.5 hours. Descent took 2:10.

Climbed with bearbnz as a early-season warm up. Always wanted to get up there! Ice axe was very helpful, crampons were optional.

More pics, etc are available on my homepage here.

Clear day. Enjoyed the first two miles as you walk nearby meadows and cow pup. Took a small break at Trail Canyon Saddle and proceeded towards the summit. Didn't feel like walking over to Montgomery Peak. Came down via the scree bowl on the far right (east).

Great hike. We started about 6:30 am and reached the peak before 9:00 am. It's well worth the trek over to Montgomery Peak, which feels more like a peak than Boundary. Camping is very limited. You are on a slope with very few level spots. Stream nearby provides plenty of water.

Route Climbed: Queen Canyon Mine Route Date Climbed: 11-02-01  Sucess!

Definitely one of the nicest climbs/hikes I have done! After much reading on the subject, I decided to climb this peak via the Queen Canyon route. Got to the trailhead at about 12:30 PM, got my gear together, then headed out right at about 1:00 PM. The route is approximately 9 miles round-trip, so didn't make it back to my car until about 9:30 PM that evening (did it all as a "day trip," even though half of it was in the dark!). Made the summit in about 4.5 hours; right at nearly pitch black! Signed the register, took a GPS reading, snapped some photos, then headed back down. Saw not another soul on the mountain the entire time I was there! Definitely an awesome trip, especially in the dark!
