Queen Canyon Mine
A great hike on a beautiful clear, nearly windless day. Had the summit all to myself. Two fighter jets soared overhead while I was on the summit. I waived my arms as they approached and I do believe one of the pilots saw me; he dipped his wing 90 degrees when he passed. This is my 21st state HP.

Only one for miles
Via Trail Canyon and shot straight up the bowl to the east in lieu of the saddle (yeah, GREAT idea, dumbass) You ever hear of scree? Made decent time on the ascent despite myself and enjoyed Boundary and Montgomery summits (an extra 1 1/2 hrs). Made it down (via the scree of course) and out w/o seeing another soul. Who says peaks are too crowded?

Trail Canyon
Camped near the trailhead to get an early start. Nice cool morning with clear weather. Took the saddle up and the scree down.

Cool peak
Camped with my buddy Walter at the trailhead the night before and then had the whole peak to ourselves.
Two days after summiting Kings in Utah, Dan and I camped at the Queen Mine. Temperatures in Salt Lake and Tonopah were nearing the century mark, so we left the car/camp before five a.m. to beat the heat, and stashed a quart of water each at Trail Canyon Saddle.
Number 44 of my 49 state high points, and my last SHP above 10,000 feet (I'm ABD -- all but Denali!)
This climb taught me the value of gaiters. My legs were so thrashed from the dry brush, and I stayed on the trail. other notes: Before this climb, I'd never experienced such a dry lonely wasteland, Although Boundary Peak affords stargazing which nearly made up for the discomfort.

HP #45
Finally #45 after the third attempt...
Three flight later to Las Vegas from Montreal and they had to loose my lugages on the third try...
Well that didn't prevent me from getting to the top...
I froze sleeping in the car at the TH just with a garbage bag as a sleeping bag... but I was mentally powered to get to the top this time no matter what!!; Finally did... 5 to go!!

Trail Canyon
The scree is awful on the way up, but kinda fun on the way down. Saw wild horses in the meadow that day.

Quick trip down from Sacramento
I was in Sacramento for business and decided to make a run at Boundary before flying out the next evening. The drive in is a little confusing in the dark, and the scree sucks on the way up. The scree is awesome on the down though, and I arrived back at my truck in high spirits!

Queen Mine Route
Hiked this peak with Cori, Anita and some members of the China Lake Mountain Rescue Group. Sugar snow and wet rock made things a little unpleasant above Trail Canyon saddle. It was a real slip and slide while descending. The weather couldn't have been better--sunny and cool with a light wind. The views from the top were mind boggling! There was just enough snow on Montgomery Peak to make things dangerous for a hiker in worn-out approach shoes. We didn't really have enough daylight anyway. Next time.

Queen Mine Trail
Drove the 4Runner to the saddle and hiked from there. There was snow on the peak above Trail Creek Saddle. Beautiful day, but cold with high winds, so we stayed bundled up the entire way. Did this one with my cousin Jack who I climbed Rainier with in July 1967.

High Point
From Queen Canyon. Yosemite was packed on this labor day weekend, but Boundary had no one. I stopped and watched the mustangs for quite awhile though. Beautiful animals, especially in the wild. Got too late to pop over to Montgomery. Maybe next time.

The weather didn't look promising, but it held and we were able to make it to the top. Saw the wild horses. They must be pretty used to all the hikers. Unfortunately they only seem to sh*t on the trail.

Boundary Peak4 of us climbed Boundary via the Queen Mine approach in May of '05. We had snow cover on most of the upper route so it was a most enjoyable day.
