Breccia Cliffs of Mount Sublette, Wyoming

Sun breaks out of the clouds for a moment, lighting the sheer, rotten breccia cliffs of Mount Sublette, as seen from Sublette Peak. The breccia is, in this case, a hardened volcanic ash that contains rocks loosely cemented together. It often looks like the knob-studded conglomerate that makes for good climbing, but more often than not, it is treacherously brittle. Absaroka Range, WY-- July 2007

Astonishing

quite similar looks could be taken in the Dolomites, where there is no ash breccia!
Beautiful shot anyway.

Thank you. Yes, I have heard these cliffs compared to the Dolomites before, and there are a few shots on SP that show the similarities better than this one does. Lucky for you guys in Europe that you don't have that nasty breccia!
