Climbed Cima Tosa in 2004, but having visited the area also in 2003 and 2005 had traversed most of the range on the via ferrata routes above Madonna di Campiglio - staying in following huts: Tucket, Pedrotti, '12 Apostel, Agostini. It is a lovely area!
Together with 3 companions, I made the hiking route around the most important summits of the Brenta-group. We started from Molveno Friday noon, went by cable car to Rif. Montana and hiked on the trail no. 340 to Rif. Croz dell' Altissimo, continued on trail no. 322 and again trail no. 340 to Rif. Selvata. From here, we went up on trail no. 319 to Rif. Pedrotti/Tosa where we were staying the first night. The next morning, we had a wonderful view at sunrise: the whole valley with Lago di Molveno was lying under cloud cover. Above this cloud cover was blue sky with the rising sun. It was really so impressing!! I remember exactly how impressed we were and could not stop watching this spectacle. Nobody wanted to start hiking ;o). Eventually, we could rip off this view and went up to Bocca di Brenta, continued on trail no. 318 via Rif. Maria e Alberto ai Brentei to Rif. del Tucket (I don't remember anymore whether we took the trail no. 318 from Rif. ai Brentai to Rif. del Tucket or whether we took the trail "Strobele Österreicher"). From Rif. del Tucket we continued our hiking on trail no. 316 to Rist. Groste. I actually don't know anymore where we stayed the second night from Saturday to Sunday, whether we were staying at Rif. del Tucket or Rist. Groste/Rif. Graffer. I'm sorry, but I really do not remember it anymore ;o) (it was already almost 12 years ago ....). But what I know for sure is that we hiked down from Rist. Groste on trail no. 301 and 314 via Bocca della Vallazza to Rif. Croz dell' Altissimo and the road down through the Valle delle Segher to Molveno.
It was a really recreative hiking during these 2 1/2 days. Actually, I wasn't in this area with the goal of hiking or climbing. I have stayed in Molveno for 2 weeks because of kind of a summer-school. So this hiking was a really recreative break after the first week since our heads were spinning by having thought about ethical questions concerning prenatal embryos' research, artificial fertilization, abortion, the question when life starts etc. ;o). I can recommend Molveno as recreational place very much! It is very nice, calm (after the season), beautiful with its lake, you can rent a boat and row on the lake. You can also swim in the lake, but in September it is already quite cold ;o). From Molveno you have a wonderful view to the Brenta-group. And if you make this hiking around the Brenta-group which I were talking of above you get a very good impression of the whole group with its several shapes of the different sides.
