Hiked from Thunder Ridge  Sucess!

I was on staff at Thunder Ridge scout camp in the early 80's. Since I lead hikes at a scout camp near the Tetons, they asked me to be trailmaster, and to find some good hikes for scouts. The main one I came up with was the hike from Thunder Ridge to Brian's Head. It was a good hike, but some scouts refused to return once they discovered a road at the top - "send our scout master in his truck".

Nice views  Sucess!

Road still blocked by snow about 0.25 mile from the summit. Walked the rest of the way in crazy wind

Summit Road  Sucess!

Drove most of the way until blocked by snow near the top. Hiked the remaining 200 vertical feet in flip flops. Nice views of Cedar Breaks.

Another county HP  Sucess!

The road was blocked by 2-3' of snow about .6 miles from the top, but it was easy to walk on the bare ridge.

Still snow on road...  Sucess!

There are still a few snow drifts that will limit any vehicles... but it's a short stroll to the top, anyway.

Almost embarrassing  Sucess!

Solo. My good sport wife accompanied me on the drive from SLC to a nearly snowless ski resort. After driving to the lower parking area about 1 mile below the summit, I drove back down the gravel road outlined by skiffs of lingering crystal snow so that I could at least get a 4-mile r/t hike out of the deal. In spite of the bright sunshine the wind was more indicative of the season. Next time I might wait until there is more snow and snowshoe from the base of the resort. #2 5-19-12 This time from the base of the resort on leftover snow. Crampons for upper 500'. Zero snow on top. Die Wanderung war fabelhaft aus bestimmtem Grund, von dem ich spaeter reden werde.

Too easy

At least bike up...still way to easy. Nice views, but I feel like a sucker. Little creak peak over by painguitch is in this range as well and has far better views and is better hike. No trail but it is fairly open. So if your in the area it is worthwhile.

A great success  Sucess!

I made it. I sent the multiple boulder problems on the sides of the hut.

June Snowstorm  Sucess!

Climbed from the base of Brian Head Peak road in a couple inches of slippery spring snow and howling wind. I wasn't expecting the storm when I came down to southern Utah so I wasn't dressed as warmly as I would've liked. Great views from the top but too cold to enjoy for very long.

Wonderful country  Sucess!

I couldn't bring myself to drive all the way, so I parked and walked the last 400 feet or so. The Markagunt Plateau is always a nice change of pace from the surrounding deserts.

Short hike  Sucess!

I parked short and cross-country'd it to the top. Repeated again with my wife in July 2007, driving to the top.
