Did this on a double high-point hike from Braunlage to Wormberg in Niedersachsen and then to the Brocken, ending the hike in Bad Harzburg. The two summits are very distinct and are a good mirror of the cultural differences between East and West Germany during the cold War.
On a a school trip. I was staying in the house of the very nice Riedler family in Benneckenstein. Remember enjoying hiking through the magical forests of Harzen :-)

MTB "Gipfelstürmer"
Rode the MTB from Braunlage over Wurmberg to Schierke and then normal asphalt road up. Speedy (and bumby) decent on concrete slaps to Ecker Stau See.

Teufelssteig
Started from Bad Harzburg and held to Teufelssteig, which leads by remarkable Eckerstausee. Although weather conditions were quite severe (-10C at the foot, -15 at the summit), the stunning beauty of the place by this time compensated for this little discomfort.

A long and really fine walk, starting with fair but cool weather at Wernigerode, having snow and minus degrees on top of Brocken, and finishing with sun at Wernigerode.

From Schierke campingplatz
The bus from Berlin to Werdingerode, then to Schierke where I camped. I went up the Bahnparallelweg then crossed Eckerloch to the summit with clear views. Went down the Brockenstrasse and Glashüttenweg, passing the Feuersteinklippen, the most impressive piece of rock of this trip! Went around Erdbeerkopf and to some klippen the next day, then the tourist train von Drei Annen Hohne back to Schierke. Werdingerode was well worth a visit too! Sunny but rain showers in the late afternoon. Good times practising my German at the campsite...

Great winter walk. Lots of snow on the summit, unfortunately a complete cloud cover, too.

Cool place
Think it was one of those 300 days of foggy weather when i went up there. -10°C and heavy winds at the top. Got a few min of clear sky, enough to get some cool pictures.

Go there every year during winter holiday (except for 2006, when i went to Gävle) Last time my dog took a 40 footer near the summit while playing with another dog, fortunately there was 10 foot of snow, so nobody got hurt. Nice wee hill to have some fun in winter.

Hexensteig
Climbed Brocken via Hexensteig. Fantastic weather below the summit. Summit in the clouds. Very cold.

Have been on the summit of this lovely mountain more times than I care to remember! So it's great to see it appear on Summit Post. My August 2004 walk to the summit was my first "big" effort after a minor cardiac problem in March 2004, (now long since gone it seems). One of the quieter routes, until near the summit when the Goetheweg route is joined.
In October I did the full height, ie starting at Illsenburg which gives a height gain of around 900m, on fairly quiet tracks. The large crowds usually come from the other side. On this day the wind was around 120 km/h at the top in heavy rain, (I loved it), but such is the weather that you can experience at the top the Storm Warning lights were not even flashing that day!
I did fail to summit it in March this year, starting in Wernigerode, (another 900m height gain route), as I had left my snow shoes at home, and higher up the snow was just too deep in places for normal hiking.
