Amazing  Sucess!

Crampons and axe the whole way. Perfect firm snow. The route we took was southwest from the trailhead to gain the ridge, then followed the ridge north. Amazing views the whole way, a short section of easy scrambling on the narrow ridge, but mostly firm snow--much better than climbing thru the trees without the views. Taggged the middle and northwest 'summits' too. Cool view of north face of Brokeoff. No wind. Cool temps. About 6 miles round trip with 2800 feet gain. Great day!

std. trail route  Sucess!

I started this hike with my wife, but due to time constraints she encouraged me to bag the peak without her and meet her back down at the car. Beautiful mountain and great weather.

Main Trail  Sucess!

Great trail in good condition. Not that busy considering the trail up Lassen Peak is still closed for improvements.

snowshoe  Sucess!

Perfect snowshoe conditions. Had 4ft of snowpack all the way up. Around 8600ft the snow got noticeably firmer and even icy at spots. Donned the ice axe and crampons and finished up while the others waited down below.

Standard Route  Sucess!

Water. Visiting this peak this time of year you know its Spring by the amount of water running off. The first third of the route with its creek crossings and such are very moist. The middle third of the route with significant snow coverage at times is another story. Up near the ridge, I left the snow-covered trail, opting for cross-country. What a beautiful alpine route! And at the top, you've got commanding views in all directions.

Summer Ascent  Sucess!

Did this a few times too. Its a more scenic climb than Lassen Peak. Did it once in the same day with Lassen. Also done part of the face free solo scramble. There is a chute on the right side of the middle when you can see the face and the scree slope from the main trail. It is quite easy if you feel comfortable climbing about 20ft unopened up a vertical ledge. That is the biggest one. The others are about 5-10ft. The only other thing is be careful, if you go with a friend, not to send the loose rocks down the chute as you climb. The best thing is to stay close together. Shasta and Lassen are both visible and look great from up top. Planning to go up in winter some time and do some snowboarding. Maybe some ice/rock mixed climbing if it forms on the face would be cool.

Another PCT county highpoint  Sucess!

I slept in my camper at the visitor center parking lot, just have to pay the normal tent campsite fee. I overslept so didn't start the hike until about 9:30 am. I only saw 1 other person leave ahead of me, and there was only 1 other vehicle in the lot, but I met a man coming down, maybe he was camped at the campground and just walked to the TH. Total time was 2:52 RT, including 10 min. on top.
