Great Day  Sucess!

Got a decent start at 6:30 and made the summit in about 2 ish hours with lots of photo stops. COTREX has the trail leading in a different direction so be mindful of that when you head up.

Buffalo Cabin Trail  Sucess!

Extremely steep trail, but worth it. The first time I saw this mountain was in 2003 and instantly went on my to do list. Ended up hiking Red Peak one year before hiking Buffalo. This was my second Gore Peak. Fantastic range!

Standard cabin route  Sucess!

This is a great chunk of elevation gain in a short distance - good quick workout! Note if you bring your dog to bring their Ruffwear boots - the sustained boulder hopping is not very paw pad friendly. I was the first one to the summit today. Met a lot of worn out tourists on my way down. I was torn between encouraging them to push on and, looking at the dark clouds building, encouraging them to turn around and enjoy a beer at Dillon Dam Brewery. ;)

Buffalo Trail  Sucess!

This was a spectacular hike with Peakbug. The views from the summit were great, but the wildlife was the key factor making this an exceptional day. We encountered a herd of seven goats on the summit ridge - four adults and three kids. Additionally there was a marmot, pika, and a ptarmigan hen with chicks. We even saw three bighorn sheep on the drive in.

went for the silver couloir, but discovered too late that the pre-broken trench didn't head that way....bummer! salvaged the day with a fine climb up the south slopes.

good to get up high again!

Buffalo Trail  Sucess!

Second time up, 8/11/13, great views of the surrounding mountains and the Dillon Reservoir area. 4 mountain goats on the summit, including a baby!

Third ascent, 5/10/14, skinned up and skied back down the east face in spring powder. Was hoping for the Silver, but after 9 others dropped in ahead, I am happy with a powder descent of the east face rather than "sloppy seconds", or is it "tenths"?

Fourth ascent, 9/19/15, standard trail route once again, quick and easy favorite. Super clear day, could see Pikes, Longs, and part of the Maroon Bells! Never disappoints.

Fifth ascent, 11/27/17, standard trail route with Rachael. Not too windy, and pretty warm for November. Some icy snow on the trail though.

Fun hike  Sucess!

Hiked with the wife. Tons of snow hiding the trail forced a bush-whack to timer-line. Then long snow slog to the summit. Fun slide down. Marked a tree with a bright shirt so we could find our bush-whack route again on the way down. Met others on the trail, all turned around except us after the trail was absorbed by snow. Perfect summit day, a few clouds, but great views of the snow covered peaks.

Went with my coworker - his first peak in 40 years! He did great! Nice mountain. Well cairned trail through the talus. The traverse to Sacred is cool. My first Gore peak - I know, I know.

Fishing vs Hiking  Sucess!

Blue River is not good fishing destination this summer, but Buffalo Mt is great hiking alternative, late start around 10 am, able to beat bad weather. Nice solo hike!

Buffalo in Winter  Sucess!

Hardest Part was the semi-covered talus/boulder field just out of the trees. Bad snow year really messes things up...
