desert scape

The Pic reminds me of central oregon high desert. "Hey" but this is England. Is it as dry as it looks.

Re: desert scape

Interesting comparison - have you got any photo's posted of the oregon desert on SP?

This pic was taken during a very cold dry spell so everything is very brown. This is not really normal though, most of the time it is rather wet here - see my other Pennin pictures for typical green late summer vegetation. I guess the moors are a kind of like a damp desert though - the soil is very peaty and acid so only particular limited types of heather and grass can grow high up.

Re: desert scape

I do not have anything with the similar landscape. We have similar basalt escarpments with sagebrush in place of heather. Instead of peat the soil is a combination of pumice and ash. The land scape is dry do to the cascade range sucking up most of the moisture.
