Summer Hike

Did an overnight trip beginning at Puerto de Cotos, up to Cabezas de Hierro Major and along the ridge to Cabezas de Hierro Major and beyond. Because of a late start the sun was down when we arrived at La Pedriza so we camped on the rocky hillside. Up in the morning, had steak and eggs for breakfast (bless you spain) and took the bus back to madrid. Great hike in the summer.

Interesting walk-up  Sucess!

After a very long day in sierra de Gredos we choose this easy walk-up of cuerda larga from puerto de Navacerrada on the next day. We had a sunny day with excellent views in all directions. A lot of wind at the summits of Guarramillas, Valdemartin and Cabezas de Hierro but we didn't had any complications with only a few of snow in the route.

Only an aproach

I tryed with my girlfriend to climb the peak from Puerto de Cotos.
It was a bit late when we started to walk, also we stoped an hour to have luch in the middle of the pretty forest above the peak.
We only managed to reach the forest border on its highest point. The weather was getting worst, and was too late to get the summit so we decided to change our plan and just walk along the forest.
We´ll be back soon!

When I was a child

I've climbed Cabezas de Hierro many times, probably a dozen. The first time should be starting on Puerto de Navacerrada. We did a bivy below Collado de las Guarramillas after having left Bola del Mundo to the left. The next day we ascended Valdemartín, Cabezas de Hierro, descended to Puerto de Cotos, climbed Peñalara and returned to Cotos, where my mom was waiting with another car.

North Face route  Sucess!

From Puerto de Cotos tediuos trek, with soft snow, up to summit and then back the same route. Snow shoes could have helped. The corridors and a short ice wall were real fun. Weather was fine and all in all i enjoyed it with my brother Gabi.

Steep route  Sucess!

We started at 1:10 PM from the barrier near Refugio del Pingarrón, past to the right of it descending to Arroyo de las Guarramillas and crossed it on a wooden bridge following PR 27 trail. Surrounded the NE slope of Loma del Aguilla and descended to Arroyo Cerradillas where there is another wooden bridge. Crossed it and started the ascent on the left side of a little creek. We waded across it passing to the right side. At 2:50 PM we stopped 20 minutes to have lunch. Followed to right of a big rocky shoulder on very steep slope. We trod some litte snow patches before reaching the summit of Cabeza de Hierro Mayor (4:42 PM). Stayed 20 minutes there and descended to the next col. We climb Cabeza de Hierro Menor (5:20 PM), descended to Collado de Valdemartín, surrounded the NE face of Valdemartín and reached the high ski tracks of Valdesquí, just between Valdemartín and Cerro del Aguila (6:35 PM). Then we descended on the ski tracks to the big parking of the ski station. Finally we followed the road to where we had parked my car.
