Glad I brought a helmet
Really cool hike. Glad I had a helmet on me. Some more technical areas along the route but nothing crazy that anyone with some experience couldn't navigate.

Amazing climb
A super fun scramble/climb. Tons of cactus, billions of gnats & flying ants and some Hulk-sized millipedes.
With Cerro Chafo & Guadalupe.

Fun scramble
A fun, short scramble on a cold day. We made it considerably longer by biking in from highway 550, because suffering is good.

With Whittles
A windy but beautiful day with Whitny. She climbed the fourth class sections like a champ!

Standard Route
There are some very cool sections of scrambling on this peak and nice 360 degree views from the summit. Definitely worth the trip. Climbed Cerro de Guadalupe on the same day.

Cool Hike, Hot Day
Fun hike and scramble. Great views from the top of other volcanic towers. Would make a nice winter or fall trip.

Spectacular Day!
I was up here in 2002. Took a friend from work on this trip. The signage from the main road (550) and the description of it on the website is excellent! Thanks.
The "Easy Way" is pretty straightforward - one just has to take one's time. Excellent handholds on all the scrambles - good rock. Despite the risk of climbing something like this during monsoon season, there was not a storm cloud anywhere in the sky - they did, however, show up in the northwest by the time we got back to the car.
Dogs? I can't imagine taking a dog up this, as mentioned in other posts!
What a beautiful climb. And the views are unique and splendid.

finally
I drive by this peak every few weeks, & finally took the time to get on top of it. Beautiful route & great view. Upper 4th class with exposure, but secure if you take your time.

When I was young
Took some route that my dad thought we need ropes for. I was really young. I don't remember if it really was technical. Just remember having fun and my father telling me a Navajo story about the ant people on the top.
Twas a great hike up Cabezon this morning. Hiking with a good friend of mine who soon will be moving to Tx. We've hike many peaks together and this was the last one for a while until he can come back and do more 14ers with me. We made the ascent in 1 hour and descent in about 50 minutes...not a bad round trip at all. The winds picked up tremendously as we headed down...70+ mph gusts on our way back to ABQ. Great hike, good scrambling, several geocaches at the top! Why dont you head out there and have some fun too!

Monster's Head
Cool climb. Nice to climb the head of Cliff Monster after experiencing Tse' Bit'ai. Was a bit steeper in places than I had anticipated but could also be that I was tired after a week of straight climbing.
Great 3rd class climbing! My dog made it up with a lot of help, I probably wouldn't bring her again unless I was with a similarly confident group (we had to pass her down the very last bit in the gully). Good times had by all.

Cabezon Peak
Third time up on top of Cabezon. Did a standard "Easy Way" route twice. This time climbed rib/edge to the right of the standard gully (solid Class 4). Fun climb/scramble, great views!
It was actually my 2nd ascent of this beautiful volcanic peak. Great views...

Fun Climb
Very fun climb/scramble with a few people from my SAR team. Started out cloudy but while on the summit the sun came out and we had blue skies for the descent.
We climbed a yet-to-be-named class 5 technical route on the south face. We also climbed the trail many, many times.

A Sacred Peak- in a holy land
Have been on top of Cabezon twice and really enjoyed it. Yes it can be hard to find the right way down and lots of loose rock to worry about as you try the correct spot. Anyway Go! It is worth it and the Rio Puerco basin has a ton of great places to explore. I spent months of time in the area and never tired of the beauty of the place.
