Camel's Hump, VT 4,000 footer  Sucess!

Did the burrows-long-forest city loop. Tough terrain and steep drops on Long trail. Decent views, my second VT 4,000 footer.

First winter summit  Sucess!

Beautiful day for a winter hike! About 40 degrees in the parking lot, but still very cold and windy at the summit. Snowshoes and/or microspikes were a must.

Plenty of traffic near the summit helped us feel safer in the windy and icy conditions, and the descent was tons of fun - we slid down the first half-mile or so on our butts (intentionally).

nice little mountian  Sucess!

I've climbed this in fall, winter, and now spring. I'm surprisd that I don't run into more than 3-4 others each time. This is the only 4,000 footer in VT that doesn't have a cell tower on the top so it's a great hike. Even though it was a warm day, 50's, it was windy. Once over the treeline it was very cold with the windchill. I had a base layer, fleece, and light down parka but could only stay for about 10 minutes at the top

Great Views of Fall Colors  Sucess!

This hike was great with the fall colors; all of Vermont was red, and the view from the top was incredible. I wish I had climbed from the south, where there would have been more of a scramble.

Camel's Hump  Sucess!

Great hike for a half a day. Went up Burrows Trail and down Monroe Trail. I enjoyed Burrows very much. Lots of people and dogs on the summit. Monroe Trail is very nice for trail running.

Up the Monroe trail  Sucess!

Two hours and two minutes up from the winter trail head, eighty minutes down. Mud season is going to have to wait a little while. There wasn't a shred of bare ground to be seen.

Burrows Trail  Sucess!

Flew up and down in an hour and 45 minutes. Astounding views all around on the frosty and windy summit.

Beautiful summer day  Sucess!

Nice easy climb, and great views in all directions. Took the southern route down past some interesting cliffs and visited the crashed plane.

Great hike up under snow  Sucess!

Hiked up Camel's Hump via the Burrows trail with Kieva on a cold, partly cloudy Monday morning. Nice well defined trail leading to the junction with the VT Long Trail, and then a nice little alpine hike to the summit. Brutally cold day due to a fast moving cold front that came in when we started that morning. The summit has to be at least a -20 windchill since my nose hairs and my eyelids froze a few seconds after getting above treeline. My hands were comfortably cool, and I was wearing OR Alti Mitts (Rated to -40).. Goes to show how cold that wind was!

1st VT hike  Sucess!

Did this one and Mansfield together in one day. Started at 7am from Monroe Trailhead and reached the top at 8:25am. It was totally clouded in what I first reached the summit, but 15 minutes later, the clouds cleared and dramatically revealed the 360 degree view. Not a moment I will soon forget!

My favorite VT peak  Sucess!

Lost count of how many times I've been up it. All seasons. Favorite route is up Forest City, down Burrows.

Great views on a windy day!  Sucess!

I think this was my first 4000ft in Vermont, nice birthday present! :)

We climbed up Monroe Trail, missed a turn, made it to the Hut Clearing, then returned via the Long Trail until we met Monroe again. The last section of the road was very badly damaged by the last storms! In some places the water dug 3-5 feet into the road!!

We had excellent weather for this climb, clear and sunny but not too hot. Very windy at the top, but this only made it more fun! The crowds were entertaining but only up to a point. Way too many dogs on the trail! :)

The descent from the summit on the rocky face offered some beautiful photo opportunities and a little welcomed challenge! Loved that part, as well as the last ascent to the summit (just too crowded to fully enjoy it).

Found the benchmark at the top of the mountain - that's always exciting!

Not much wild life on the way - no wonder, with so many people...

All in all a very nice hike, would do it again, especially if the road gets repaired and can skip the first portion :)

birthday hike for RhythmicMom  Sucess!

Up Monroe to Hut Clearing, south over the summit to Alpine Trail.

I prefer Mt Mansfield -- way more alpine zone, so you have some chance of avoiding the crowds. Camel's Hump offers excellent views; I'll have to try it in the off season or on a weekday.

I did enjoy the section of the Long Trail that traverses the south face of the Hump.

Road to Monroe trailhead is washed out, parking at the View Trail lot was overflowing but everybody found spots along the road.
