Epic!  Sucess!

Went from Water Canyon to Eagle Crags. Pretty spectacular hike. On the couloir descent off Canaan we had a 62-year-old member of the party fall HEAD FIRST off a ~12 foot boulder. I don't know how she didn't break her neck and die. Luckily she landed in sand and walked away from the fall. Pretty miraculous. If I did it again I think I'd just go to White Dome/Black rocks and return rather than do the whole route. Beautiful though.

Water Canyon  Sucess!

Beautiful area! Every bit of this hike was amazing - Water Canyon, White Domes, the little forests on top! Very cool hike and great views.

Water Canyon  Sucess!

This hike was the highlight of my spring break trip! There were great views to go along with a variety of interesting terrain to admire and play around on. As far as conditions, water was easy to avoid, but still available if seeking. There were a few patches of snow few and far between hanging on in some shady spots.

sawmill sprgs  Sucess!

From the Eagle Crags trailhead I made it to the prow and the end of the formal trail in an hour. Another 90 minutes to get to the stock trail that continues to erode and/or disappear under slides. There are several large cairns to mark the junction of the stock trail and the intermittent hiker trail coming from the crags. At the top of the stock trail, more cross country hiking and bushwacking. Nearly five hours total hiking to arrive at South Creek and then another walking up the slickrock of the creek to the spring and the sawmill ruins. Knee deep snow in the area. Explored and lounged for an hour. Returned to trailhead. 12 hours round trip.

Water Canyon  Sucess!

A beautiful solo hike to the obscure highpoint of this sprawling mountain. Not including a leisurely lunch on the summit and an extended break with some nice folks I met on the way back, just under 6 hours car-to-car.

Canaan Mt highpoint  Sucess!

Went west to the highest point marked for the mountain -- which is actually a rather nice bare sandstone hoodoo. It sure was a long slog over there and back, with a lot of snow, mud, and loose sand. It looks like the final stats are about 19 miles RT, with 5000' accumulated gain from some interesting diversions I took.

My Water Canyon experience proved "interesting". In March with lots of snowmelt, Water Canyon was... very watery. So I took a good spur trail left (W) from the first falls; that trail climbed up to ~6500', then abruptly switch-backed down to 5900', and dumped me out in a narrow part of the canyon with 6"-1' water. (What I missed was a real trail, buried under snow, that went L at 6500'.) So I climbed up some questionable stuff on the E side and made my way to the ridge. This improvised route was "interesting".

Boy, the ATVers are annoying. I was trying to convince myself that they were probably nice guys, till I came across the empty beer cans they had just flung down on the rocks (I had just been by this very spot hours before). I found 5 gal. of gas they had cached, and I briefly considered a fuel modification.

Water Canyon  Sucess!

This is a very beautiful mountain that has great views from the summit. Water Canyon, White Domes, and everything else on the plateau are interesting. I saw a lot of strange things while driving to the mountain and on the mountain itself so I learned a lot.
