Climb from Rapid River  Sucess!

Started up the mountain from the Rapid River Fish Hatchery. I have been looking at this climb for a few years as an early climb up into the Seven Devils before the road opens to see them covered in snow. I was able to make it to the top by starting at Rapid River and vering off the trail along a trail that heads Thorn Gulch. I lost the trail fairly quickly but ended up following game trails up the ridge between Thorn Gulch and Blue Gulch all the way to the top. I hit snow about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile before the summit and had to walk over it, but the south west face was clear of snow when I made it to the top. From the top I walked down the back side (SW face) to the West Fork of the Rapid River, and then followed the trail all the way around the mountain back. This route ended up being 12-13 miles and having 5000 foot elevation gain, over all a nice climb to start the season. The view of the Seven Devils covered in snow was totally worth the effort. Cannon Ball  Sucess!

Hiked up Cannon Ball Mountain the day after doing a long loop hike in the Seven Devils. I really like these mountains.

Big west to south loop  Sucess!

Cut across the west slope from Scott Saddle to below Coconut Grove on the south side, then up to the top. This is a long unnessary way to hike the mountain, but I wanted to explore it a little and give myself more of a hike that simply running up from the saddle.
