West Ridge with Aaron Gallagher. Despite pouring rain in Anchorage, it was relatively nice in the South Fork Valley. Saw another group going up on our way down- this mountain seems to get a lot of traffic lately.

I hiked in with some friends via the S. Fork Eagle River trail. Alone, I went up to the West ridge via an easy tundra ramp and stayed on the ridge crest the whole way up to the summit. It seemed like an unlikely climb at the time but every rock step went at Class 4. The last one was the toughest, and nastiest. Great route, highly recommended. Also, it's been a place of some accidents because of the nasty rock that's found on this peak.

Early 1990sI climbed Cantata Peak via the west ridge with Bryan Carey one July day in the early 1990s.
