County Line  Sucess!

Sixth peak on a 7 day trip between Sawmill and Taboose Passes. This was a bit of an afterthought, just before exiting down the Taboose Pass trail, but worth it. Most of the route is class 1, with a bit of class 2 when one has to cross some chutes. The summit views are fantastic. Trip report

From Taboose Pass  Sucess!

The black rib west of the peak offers a solid and quick route to the summit that isn't loose. And the south chute back down is super fast, but I wouldn't want to go up that way!. Sweet views on top!

Snow in the ascent chute  Sucess!

A long tongue of snow led up the ascent chute. Not in great shape, but better than the loose rock and debris elsewhere. Lots of snow to the west, clouds came in, lending some drama. Snowed the night before. Great early season climb. Bear tracks in the snow on the way down.

Camped at Taboose Pass. Climbed mostly solid rock to the right of the south chute going up, then descended the chute on the return.

Dayhike  Sucess!

from Taboose TH, west ridge went on longer than I would have liked, but awesome drop off on other side. GREAT views of Split from summit, bailed off a loose sandy chute on south slopes for quick way down. Felt like a tedious slog to reach summit.

West Ridge  Sucess!

Dayhike on a warm April day. Went up the West/county line Ridge from near Taboose Pass and down the sloggy south chute. Stellar views!

West Ridge  Sucess!

Nice solo day hike to get this one done. More loose Class 3 than I expected but I had a good time. Quick descent done a shitty chute - who the hell goes up that way?! Ran down from Taboose Pass; love this trail!

Taboose Pass  Sucess!

Great views, but the slog up the south chute was miserable. Lots of loose talus, especially about halfway up, that makes for two steps forward, one step back. Very little snow left that was easily crossed without gear.

From Taboose  Sucess!

Originally planned for Split Mtn via Red Mtn Crk that weekend, but was surprised (back in those days of very little beta) by the locked gates and huge 'no trespassing' signs blocking access.
Plan 'B': Taboose Pass Trail. From Taboose Pass I went up the southwest ridge and down a snow chute on south slope. Surprisingly large amount of snow left up in the high country. Great views of what, for me at the time, was a great unknown area of the High Sierra.

County Line Route  Sucess!

Up the county line route on the 2nd afternoon of a 5-day trip in the area with my bother. This was his second summit ever, after Goodale in the morning. Came down the scree gully on to the south. We had perfect CA weather each day, bagging Striped, Goodale, Cardinal, Wynne, Pinchot, Arrow, and Pyramid during the trip.

Great ascent gully  Sucess!

Climbed in conjunction with goodale Mtn on the last day of winter...Glissading down from the summit to Tabooze pass made the descent really fun.

Via County Line  Sucess!

Came from camp on Taboose Pass on the final day of a 4 day 4 peak trip. Climbed the county line ridge. There was a short section where you traverse some loose rock but other than that an easy climb. Awesome views from the top. Descended via a scree chute back to the pass.

Taboose standard slog  Sucess!

Day 1 of a tough weekend with Taboose Pass and Cardinal Mtn on Day 1 and Arrow Pk and exit on Day 2. Standard approach straight up from the lakes below the pass. Tried to keep it in the Cl 2/3 rocks as the scree was terrible (but ok for descent) Great views and perfect day -- looks like people use the mtn as a ski peak in the winter. Arrow Pk is a long ways away... Pictures

2007 Sierra Challenge  Sucess!

Somehow, Ryan and I managed to climb halfway up the wrong peak before realizing we weren't on Cardinal. Doh! Recovered from our errant ways, summiting Cardinal and then Goodale for good measure. Trip Report

County Line  Sucess!

The county line route is almost entirely class 1 and the hike up to Taboose Pass was easier than expected making for an enjoyable day. Descended the loose chute on the south side. On the way up we spotted a bear heading down to the trailhead for snacks. Excellent views.
