Carefully Climbing on the Summit Ridge

Carefully Climbing on the Summit Ridge

Ski carefully ascended this knife ridge which had fresh powder snow on it. The moment was a little worry some, but was exciting at the same time. Taken October 15, 2011 on Eldorado Peak.

A classic

Very nice Josh, really a stunning shot. What are you doing though, lighting a victory cigar?

Re: A classic

You know, I could swear he's brushing his teeth! Makes sense ... it being early morning and all, maybe Josh is a creature of habit and, when the moment arrived, he just automatically went for the brush. Flossing must have been difficult up there, though ...

Re: A classic

Good guess's, but those are actually Ski's glasses hanging down. We wanted as little of distractions as possible. We left our backpacks behind, although I brought the camera because it felt mandatory for me. ;-)

Re: A classic

Good grief ...

For a wee moment there, I thought that was a PIPE hanging down out of his mouth.

A corn cob pipe. The kind Uncle Jethro used to smoke in the backwoods of Tennesee before becoming a famous Climber and posting on SP.

Haha!

Now a pipe up yonder would have made this picture just extra classy indeed! Thanks for the shot, Josh!

Re: Haha!

We will have to remember that for next time. ;-) Anyways, even though we were on steep terrain, I could not resist capturing this moment because in person it was classic.

Re: Haha!

In mountain books from just the fifties or sixties you may see people smoking a 'summit cigarette' or a sitting down at the foot of a large rock face they have just descended, smoking an 'off the mountain' cigarette or pipe.

That wasn't the worst though, but a crowded mountain hut full of smokers that was awful!

2 questions

First of all, outstanding photo and achievement. Now my questions: Is that Whitechuck Mtn in the far distance to the left? And, I seem to see a flare knot in the rope about five feet below Ski. Am I correct? Thanks Josh....At this rate your blisters will never ever heal.....

Re: 2 questions

Thanks Joel! That is indeed White Chuck in the background, you did well figuring that one out. As for the knot, it's a overhand knot on a bight. As for my blisters, they have recovered a long time ago when I lowered my adventure average to 2-3 times a week. Trust me, this summer I was out a lot! Within the next few weeks I hope to write a big story on it.

Magic Moment

I reckon one that you will always remember. Just a wonderful position on the edge.

Re: Magic Moment

For as long as I can remember my own name I will remember this moment. Although the camera case made climbing it a little harder, it was worth it.

Re: G6

You'll have to ask Ski, I'm sure he would autograph it! Glad you liked it.

Re: Great!

Thanks Eric. It is a little airy, but as long as you plant that axe in deep and you kick in your steps well, your all good to go.
