This mountain was named in 1858 for its obvious fortress or castle-like appearance and reddish-rock by James Hector. An imposing peak in the Bow Valley, this mountain dominates the view for much of the journey from Banff to Lake Louise along Rt. 1, the Trans-Canadian Highway
