Castle Peak East Face

Castle Peak East Face

Castle Peak's impressive east face as seen from nearby point 10248'. It’s a vertical drop of nearly 2500 feet from the summit to the trees below. Photo taken July 2003.

I'd give this picture an 11 if I could.

Re: 11

Thanks mrh. The photo really doesn't even do it justice.

Yes!

One of the best- captures just how big this peak is compared to the surrounding terrain

Re: Yes!

Thanks Sean. Not sure if you’ve ever been over on that side, but the climb up from Baker Lake, especially the last half mile or so up to Castle Divide is just awesome. Castle Peak is in your face the whole time.

Rock Glacier

Impressive. Is that a rock glacier at its foot?

Re: Rock Glacier

Interesting question. I’m not positive, but I don’t believe so. The climate in this part of Idaho probably is not optimal for a rock glacier (But I don’t have any expertise on the subject.) It does look pretty similar to other photos of rock glaciers that are out there.

Re: nice shot!

Thanks, glad you liked it. It was a beautiful day, with lots of color contrast between the blue skies, white rock, new green foliage, and patches of snow.

Re: Impressive

Big pretty much sums it up. Castle towers over all surrounding peaks, and is easy to identify from a long way away in all directions.

Wow!

That's pretty much all I can say about this one! Just awesome!

Re: nice pic

Thanks Abram. Castle is obviously huge from all directions, but this is the most impressive angle to view the peak from, in my opinion.

Nature itself built a monument!
