Great peak for getting in some practice. Accended the NE Couloir to the summit. Rappelled off and descended the SW face. Thanks SMG.
I've done this several times, but the first was my first snowshoeing hike with my buddy John. Awesome wind-blown snow features on the trees.
First time of using snowshoes. The weather is not bad in the morning but snowing in the afternoon when we drove back home.
been up here a couple times - just over 2.5 hours from SF, an easy skin up to the saddle and then short climb to the summit. great sw-facing turns in the spring. prob the quickest place from the city to get on your skis.
A great peak for snowshoeing or winter camping. Even as out of shape as I am I made the northern tower in just under 2.5 hours from the snow park. Great views and plenty of shoots to climb and runouts to practice self arrest.
Nice, sunny snowshoe day up Castle Peak via Andesite Peak. Sledding down was even better.
A great day of skiing and riding down the south face! Check out the helmet cam video...
Snowshoed to south ridge, traversed over towards summit block. Had to descend then hike back up to summit block. Climbed class 3 south side of summit. Clear skies, fantastic views, Lassen was in clear view to the north.
Icy snowshoe up the West ridge. Very enjoyable scramble/climb up the east turret (the true summit). Rock is solid, but some chunks did come off from the party above us. Wear a helmet or climb one at a time. Beautiful views of other Tahoe peaks, Lassen and Diablo.
Dayhike with Andesite.
the final section is a fun climb. Lots of handhold and rock is solid.
Nice way to end the hike. The class 4 side of the turret is lots of fun, but watch out for loose holds! Went on to Basin Peak and Andesite Mountain on the way down.
Fun snowshoe up to the summits. The west face of the East Peak is a nice little climb.
good times but summit was not in the plan. skied once with Robin once with Brian- fun morning out on skins
Enjoyable snowshow up from the highway. A bit cold and cloudy...
x3. West Ridge with MOLLAY.
Climbed in a storm from the Peter Grubb Hut. Got very windy and stormy at the top.
Fun to ski, fun to snowshoe, fun to climb when iced over. Love this place.
I hiked and scrambled up to the summit a few times in the 90's with some friends. One time we brought a boom box and we ate some strange fungi(back in the party days). That was some wild memories of hanging out on the summit turret.
The first time I climbed this peak it was in winter, and I was pleased to see it was so close and lots of options for daytrips of all sorts. A great training peak.
