County High Point with Great Views  Sucess!

Followed both Whiley Hall and Bob Burd's GPX up to Storm King and Castle Rock. The main objective was, of course, Castle Rock. We were able to drive up to the junction with the road that becomes an ATV road in a Subaru Outback. Started at 6:40 am. There were some mosquitoes but not too many. The ATV road is still easy to follow but the use trail peters in and out along the ridge. It is best to already follow an established track. Lots of cool looking mushrooms along the route. Views from Storm King are scarce but views from the southern aspect of Castle Rock are AMAZING. Finished hiking at 10:35 am.

Via Buckhorn Lakes  Sucess!

Bushwhacked through the forest (awful!) and caught a a road. Climbed an avy path to the ridge and caught the summit. Super wet from the monsoon rains. Mosquitoes were a bitch.

from North  Sucess!

Went up this one with Storm King from the north, started somewhere above Buckhorn Lakes. Went up while Aaron and Jamie were making an attempt on the South Sawtooth Rock.

snow hike  Sucess!

A lot of snow on the road and obviously on the hike. I had to park about 2 miles below the Buckhorn lakes and hike up. It was snowing en route, and we (Duchess and me) did not have any views.

from above Buckhorn Lakes  Sucess!

After getting lost trying to find the way up after my GPS quit on me, I returned to next day after figuring out the unmapped trail network. Park at the radio towers above Buckhorn Lakes (just stay on the main road). There's a small road used by ATVs heading south from there. Follow that until you reach the north ridge's most gradual topo lines and bushwhack up the east side of the ridge. There's a very faint "trail" marked occasionally with flagging. Follow the ridge once on top. Summit is at the radio repeater. I went farther along the ridge to the county corner BM. A GPS is very helpful and I used a mountain bike to cut time off the trail descent.

From Buckhorn Lakes  Sucess!

My wife and I had all kinds of route information on this peak, but never really found the "correct" way up. I suspect we used bits and pieces from all of them. We had beautiful weather and the view of the main range of the San Juans was spectacular.

Wet!  Sucess!

Route from Buckhorn Lakes was mostly covered with wet snow. Fortunately for me, a new, followable route presented itself. I documented the route here on SP. The muddy roads are no joke - I almost got my 4x4 (with well worn tires) stuck.
