gusts of snow, very dense fog, the path had melted during an unusually warm night...
Not a very nice view at the top either
I guess I'll have to take another trip te Monte Rosa!
Easy but nice summit ridge.
Kl. Matterhorn -> Castor -> Pollux -> Kl. Matterhorn. Took the first cablecar up. Good conditions with a hard snow crust. Reached the top of Castor in 3 hours, a pretty easy ascend. Mostly cloudy but we got a few great views. Climbed Pollux on the way back. Speed is important if you want to catch the last cablecar. Another nice day in the mtns.
We came back to climb Castor again - a beautiful peak! Very high winds and blowing powder snow in the morning, miserably high temperatures in the afternoon, but a great outing regardless! With my wife Sonya.
Started from Q. Sella Hut, then Felikjoch, then up the East Ridge. Passed numerous guided groups on the descent and then headed up to do Pollux. Easy but aesthetic.
Left the hut at 5am and reached the beautiful summit around 8am. Not a bad spot to have breakfast. Then, made the long, long trek back to the Klein Matterhorn.
Klein Matterhorn - Schwarztor - Castor - Schwarztor - Zermatt. Great day, but hard work in the steep NNW face due to fresh snow.
More images from this ascent.
A good route for training. Climbed several more times.
Climbed on day 2 of the Frontier traverse starting from the Klein Matterhorn.
Beautiful Tour to Castor 4223m.
my picture are here: Link to Castor 4223m
Great ascent in a fantastic sunny day with a lot of wind. The quality of the snow was excellent. To the summit in 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Route from Quintino Sella hut. We have nice weather and we have enjoyed in amazing view.
ascent from NW face (from Mezzalama hut), descent through SE ridge (to Quintino Sella hut)
Climbed late afternoon - quite cloudy and windy
Ascended west route and descended E arete as part of single day traverse of Monte Rosa group from KM to Nordend.
Johanna and I climbed the west side.
Normal Route from Rif. Guide Val d'Ayas
rarely climbed in summer via Zwillinggletscher
It has been my first ice route. I'll always remember this day.
After we had climbed Pollux we climbed Castor and reached the summit at about 4 o'clock. There were a lot of clouds and the weather started to change rapidly.
