Another SB6K peak for the family
My family, wife, and daughter (15) are working on the South Beyond 6000 challenge. This is our 19th peak so far. My wife hates snakes and thus hates to bushwhack. This one was not too bad although it really takes a while to confirm that you are at the actual peak.

4th of four
Took eighty four minutes to get to the summit from the Mt. Mitchell parking lot. The Black Mountain Crest trail is an easy and pleasant hike.

Bushwack beyond sign
Hiked up the ridge beyond the sign to the highest outcrop on the ridge. I did not find the benchmark though.

5th of 8
5th of the day on the way to Gibbs and back. Summit has a tree canopy that mostly obscures your view.
My first hike. I did a point-to-point, finishing atop Mt. Mitchell. At that time I was not yet afflicted with peak-bagger's disease, so I don't know if I made sure to stand on the high point.

A great hike out, but a rather anticlimactic peak.

Started at the Visitor's center and took the Old Mt. Mitchell trail to the summit, and then on to Mt. Craig, Big Tom, Balsam Cone, and Cattail Pk., and back the same way, plus the nature trail, for 3116' of gain.

Great day
Black Mountain to Mt Mitchell then on to Mount Craig - 6647', Big Tom - 6580', Balsam Cone 6596', and Cattail Peak 6584'. About a 16 mile day. It was muddy and cloudy, but not cold.

Another on the ridge
Saw some nice spots to camp here in the open forest. Massive rain storm unleashed on us before we headed back to Mitchell.

Beautiful day for hiking. 2nd birthday in a row spent in the Appalachians. They're not West Coast mountains, but I'm liking this tradition. Did the Deep Gap trail and hit Mitchell again. The first state highpoint I've hit twice.

What a wonderful day. We saw only one other person on the trail from Mt. Mitchell to Cattail Peak and back. Really enjoyed this outing. We loved the quiet, the scenery, the moist forest, all of it.
Crossed (rain, mist and sleet) on my loop---12 hrs. 1 hr to Horse Rock trail, then up, over to the Bowlen's Creek end of Ridge Crest Trail, turned and went to Mitchell, before coming back to Deep Gap, down most of Colbert's Ridge, and then 'bushwack' to Locust Creek and White Oak Creek.
