Re: zeitlowThanks! I couldn't remember his name except it started with a "Z". After the hike, he probably went back to his hiding place to watch for the next set of hikers to go up!

IF this happened out (yonder) here in Arizona, the dog would either get bit by a rabid fox or rattlesnake, perhaps even chased by a wild javelina. Very possibly, a cougar would be eying any dogs off the leash.
Water is an important commodity for any dog's
safety. If I had a dog, I think I'd name him
"The Dog Star." : ))

Re: zeitlowI had seen Zeitlow every time I've done this trail, but on my latest trek up (last month), I did not see him :-(... I do hope that no creature, rabid or otherwise, did him in.
Ah, I'll bet the occasional "human off the leash" could also succomb to those same Arizona threats you mention... BE SAFE out there and take care!
