Cerro Fitz Roy (3375m - Patagonia/Argentina)

>> click here for close-up (different angle) : Fitz Roy

View of the Fitz Roy seen on the trail leading to Loma del Pliegue Tumbado (1540m).
At the bottom, there is the Glaciar Torre falling into the Laguna Torre. From there runs the Rio Fitz Roy that goes down to El Chalten. The green color of the lake is due to minerals.

Fitz Roy is also know as "El Chalten", the smoking mountain (name given by the native indians), as clouds often get stuck on the summit. It was first ascended in 1952 by two great French climbers : Guido Magnone and Lionel Terray.

Re: Another Jewell!

The ascent of Loma del Pliengue Tumbado was very pleasant as you have an incredible landscape all the way long. As far as the ascent of Fitz Roy is concerned... I don't know it's way out of my league !!
Thanks for visiting.
