Fun Climb  Sucess!

Had a clear morning which provided us with some great views of the area, fogged in on the decent which made navigating rather fun. Highly recommend this mountain, great view from the top, summit is small and airy!

Route Climbed: Normal Route.  Sucess!

After spending three nights at Cordon del Plata Range, one night at Piedras Blancas and two nights at El Salto. Roxana (ARG) and I plus the rest of teams waited for good weather at El Salto Camp Site (4,200 m).

It snowed day and night. Nobody left camp on our climbing day, mostly because of lighting seen in the distance. We left our tent pretty late (6:00 am). Most of the teams went down or stayed at the camp.

We hiked up towards the saddle between El Plata and Vallecitos. Extremely windy up there.

Hiked very close to the cornices. Got to the base of the summit and kept scrambling the almost vertical few meters to the top.

Roxana and I got to the summit (5,470 m/17,946 ft) at 12:00 pm. Beautiful views of surroundings mountains and of Aconcagua. We were the only team that summited that day.

Headed back to Las Veguitas Camp (we couldn't cross a stream which became a huge river because of the fresh new melted snow) so we camped out there. Hiked and hitch hiked back to Mendoza next day.

A great climb with awesome views. Nice spending time with people from Argentina, very friendly and talkative people. Made good friends during the climb. Can't wait to climb back other peaks here!

My Alba Wind Watch was running crazy !

We made it to the top, together with a Catalan couple.

Camped at Alto Salto (the camp area above El Salto). Extreme conditions. Lots of strong, cold winds and storm with snow appeared. Plan to dual Plata and Vallecitos led to Vallecitos only as storm approached. Reached the summit with conditions worsening. Momentary views of the Cordon del Plata and Aconcagua from the summit. Conditions the next day broke our North Face Expedition tent and shredded the top. Do not underestimate conditions in this mountain range.

Beautiful views of the rugged mountain range and Aconcagua on the "other side" of the ridge. A little surprise of semi-technical rocks the last 10-15 meters. A blizzard coming - fast down!
