Thwarted by the weather
We set out early and were turned back by intense lightning and hail at 10 AM. The climb up to Willow Lake was magnificent and it was a great trip despite the storm.

The pair from Willow Crk. Harder day than I expected, but got it done. Chased off the mountain by bad weather after quickly getting KC.
Altitude sickness got the best of one in our party, so I turned around with her while the other two continued. Beautiful area, bummer that we didn't summit.

The first day above Willow Lake I tried for one of the couloirs northeast of Carson's summit. A cornice near the terminal ridge halted me just dozens of feet from the top. I camped in the valley that night and was up a little after sunrise to do the standard Challenger-Kit route, and just in time to evade some storms.

Long day from Willow Lake TH
Started at Willow Lake TH in the morning with Ted Romero. Got Kit Carson, Challenger and then went over Kat Carson on the way to Humbolt. A storm rolled in and we bailed down Spanish Creek drainage. Long, long day.

Climbed KC Prow, tagged Challenger, then back to finish KC direct from top of Prow.
Stuck rope and penji. Nasty fall at the crux. Landed on the ledge on my back. I thought the rope snapped over one of those sharp edges. I was the 2nd too. Day was pretty much over after that. What a disappointment. Painful and gorgeous hike out tho.
A single day outing with Castricone7 (Pete). Had impecable weather and ran into several groups of people. A long day but definately a good, solid one.
Fall is definitely coming soon!

north ridgethis is an incredibly fun route offering solid class-4 rock and plenty of exposure. Crossed the avenue to Challenger and descended the standard route
