HP #4  Sucess!

Second HP of the day. The first was in MS. We made it minutes before they were closing the mountain for the night. It was bitter cold. The wind was howling like crazy. Would have liked to see it during the day.

Cheaha   Sucess!

Another drive up high point, well, except for the steps to the top of the tower. Take the time to hike the Pulpit Rock trail as well! It is about a mile out and has cool trees and an awesome view.
I agree with an earlier post, the park staff were beyond friendly!
After the Tower and the Rock, I headed over and hiked the Chinnabee Silent Trail to the Odum Trail crossroad and back, encountering 3 seasons within the 12 mile RT trek: fall looking leaves everywhere, one area had ice on the branches and covering part of the trail and at the trailhead lake, lots of pink cherry blossoms. Also, the two waterfalls were pretty spectacular due to recent rain. Overall a beautiful hike to supplement the highpoint! (Mind you, you have to drive from the "summit" to this is not in that area but not a far drive)

Alabama state high point. Check!

Views were pretty.

Larvitour Stop #10  Sucess!

Drove past the high point on my way to my campsite, then walked back up after pitching my tent. The views from the tower were decent, though there's an even better vantage point down the hill between the hotel and its pool.

Why So Nice?  Sucess!

The humans at the state park were, like, the nicest, like, ever. For real.
Last highpoint of a 2,000 mile solo trip from Ohio getting Mississippi and Florida tambien.

Complete Whiteout  Sucess!

What a shame. The clouds were on the mountain and it was a complete whiteout. Even the museum was closed at the top. Glad to get there though. HP #21.

#40  Sucess!

Little did I know I would get this into state highpoints.

I was close to a breaking point at work and my wife chased me out the door to get away.

Figured I had only 3 left east of Colorado, so I hit it: MS, AL, FL. This was the first of the three.

Headed up here after a tour of Bryant-Denny Stadium and "on the way" to Pensacola. Drove to the top as that was what was required. While the store & hotel had some activity, the summit area was unoccupied. Nice little views, fun observation tower.

In the fog  Sucess!

A nice walk up to the top of the observation tower, but no views on this foggy morning. Northeast Alabama is surprisingly mountainous.

Did it from the lake  Sucess!

Took the Lake Trail from Cheaha Lake. It was very steep and difficult to find footing because of all the leaves. Autumn colors were at their peak at the lower elevations.

Beautiful Sunrise  Sucess!

Approached from the North, parked at the end of Cheaha road. Trip up was about 3.5 miles and 1700' vertical, very pleasant hike. Cut crosscountry on the way up, but followed trails entirely, including the pinhoti, on the way back down.

Socked In  Sucess!

We camped for 2 nights on top of the mountain. Had to drive to the summit as it was raining. Very nice state park.
