Paired with Rockwell and Painted Teepee
what he said
Up on Two Medicine Pass. Climbed with a big group, and everything was easy going to this summit. We moved on to Grizzly, and that's where the fun began. We experienced three separate storms, the first of which started when we were mere feet from the summit. At least 4 items were lost and blown off the mountain, and the wind was crazy enough to lift one of my friends... crazy.
Actually, I knew I would "bag" a peak on trail before heading out, and the thought of 3 in one day hike was a big lure for me. Also hit Painted Teepee: charming and wild and surprising, and Grizzly Mountain. 25 miles in 12 hours as I was car camping. No permits for Cobalt. Oh well. Rested the next day. Storms chased me away in a rush so my thin hopes of Rockwell as a 4th were dissolved. Met a guy in the permit office next morning planning the same trip from Cobalt Lake.
2008 - Windy, with Painted Tepee and Grizzly
2011 - w/ Anders Olson and Joshua Olson in combination w/ Painted Tepee.
So many huckleberries on the trail it was tough to hike!
Hit this between Rockwell and Painted Teepee. Climbed with FlatheadNative and Rod. G. Windy day!
Went up the scree field to the East of Cobalt Lake because of all the snow. Also did Grizzly and Painted Teepee with Rod, Blake, John & Mike.
From the summit, took the broad red ridge towards Painted Tepee Peak. Descended from the saddle down to Cobalt Lake. First time to Two Medicine Pass, which to me seems like a highly underrated area of the park.
Climbed again on June 26, 2011 when clouds forced our group to abort an attempt on Grizzly Mountain. Unbelieveable amounts of snow on the trail up to Cobalt Lake and on to Two Medicine Pass.
2008 with GNP Chat Group
2006 Brian Kennedy on two successive days en-route to/from Mount Despair.
2005 with Brian and Ronnie
2001 lead GMS group over Chief Lodgepole to Grizzly.
Climbed from just above Cobalt Lake didn't want to walk the extra miles over to the base of Rockwell. Great day for a hike and an easy climb.
July 18, 2011
Summited via saddle between Lodgepole and Painted Teepee.
August 22, 2011
Climbed with Rod G. and GlacierCountry on the way to Painted Teepee Peak after climbing Mount Rockwell. High winds made walking along the crest of the ridge interesting.
Great trail run.
I've "climbed" this peak a couple times during backpacking trips up and over the divide from both directions. I also climbed it the two times I summited Painted Teepee.
Climbed enroute to Grizzly Peak on last climb of the season with Paul
Also, 6/18/98 enroute to Painted Tepee with Larry and Vern
Tagged it along the way to Painted Tepee.
