The elevation gain is largely frontloaded in the first three miles with some steep road sections. Beautiful view of the Ojai area as far as the atmosphere allows.
Six of us did a 15.5-mile loop up the steep Nordhoff Ridge Access Road and on the Nordhoff Ridge Road to Chief Peak and then down the Rose Lion Trail. Luckily it was only in the 70s, because we were in the sun 80-90% of the 8-hour hike.
Took the easy way and drove the Nordhoff Ridge Road to near the summit. Quick hike up the NW Ridge from there. Also climbed Topatopa Bluff and Hines Peak earlier in the day.
Great trail run up Horn Canyon.
Threesome involving Hines, Topatopa, and finally Chief. Great day for a 30 miler.
