Chris Koziarz climbing...

Chris Koziarz climbing somewhere above the middle of the Northeast Buttress of Goode Mountain. This section contained an enjoyable set of pitches on clean rock. Unfortunately we were usually in mist, and only rarely got broader views of the valley floor.

We climbed the ridge in mountain boots, and I had to endure some jibes when I invoked the alpine perogative of yarding on a nut when leading the pitch above to avoid a dicey free climbing move. So alas! For me, the ridge is A0 :-).

The alcove

Michael: what are you bored in Germany already? All this posting to SP when you should be out sightseeing or sightskiing.

This shot provides a good view of the alcove bivy ledge on approach. Your shot doesn't really convey the steepness of this area. But my shot looking down from that ledge gives it too much steepness.

Re: The alcove

Haha! Well, you know how it can be: it's wintertime - dark and snowy, I've got two babies to help with, and I don't know that many people yet. It's a fine time to catch up on some projects, one of which was...do some summitpostin'. :D.

Definitely a steep place. I really wish we had wider views. But Chris K. up there ascending into the mist is kind of cool too. I thought maybe the rope would come trailing down, him having been carted off by a pterydactl.

Re: Goode Mountain, ...

Definitely great fun, thanks. I just saw your Mt. Kenya stuff, really awesome! Also, there is an especially good Mt. Goode in California too, I hear tell...you'll have to give us a report :)

Re: Goode Mountain, ...

Thanks. Mt. Goode looks pretty sweet, but I've got a long list of things I want to do first :) This TR by Steve Larson is a good read, though!

Re: Goode Mountain, ...

Nice, good TR. I think it's cool that both CA and WA have a "Goode", both of which have a great technical north face climb. SP.org could award a gold pin to he or she who climbed both routes. :-)
