cirque bearing Iceberg Lake

cirque bearing Iceberg Lake

Mount Wilbur (left) and Iceberg Peak (right) overshadow Iceberg Lake. The deep notch to the right of Iceberg Peak is called Iceberg Notch, and can provide an exciting shortcut from Many Glacier to the Ahern Pass area. The tall pinnacle to the right of the notch is known as the B-7 Pillar, and is only ascended via a technical climb. Iceberg Lake is a popular day-hike destination in Glacier National Park. The trailhead is found at the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn, and the trail climbs 1,200 feet over 4.9 miles to the beautiful alpine tarn. Surrounded by a steep cirque with sheer 3,000 foot cliffs, the lake owes its name to the large chunks of ice that are regularly found floating about throughout much of the summer. September 15, 2008
