HP# 27  Sucess!

Too bad it's so touristy. I stepped off the paved trail on to the AT to cross the highest point on the AT and although it was like I-95 on the paved trail not a soul was on the AT.

Heading north  Sucess!

Did this as part of a two week backpack of a section of the AT before there were such things as through hikers and trail names. We had the trail to ourselves until we came to Clingman's Dome. Alone again after Newfound Gap.

Highpoint # 15  Sucess!

Third of five in a highpoint and whiskey trail driving vacation. Fantastic hike on the AT from the Fork Ridge Trailhead parking lot. Happily there was some visibility from the tower ... just stunning!

Great Smokey Mountains  Sucess!

Although I could have easily hiked less, I managed to eek out 6.1 miles hiking from the parking lot to the top of the tower and back via a little of the Appalachian Trail.

1rst summit I did at sunset...gorgeous! 2nd summit I did along my AT thru hike in 04/2017 and it was really crowded which I suspect is common

Very Foggy  Sucess!

Walked the easy road up. You can call it cheating, but its another high point. Disappointed at the view because it was so foggy.

Clingmans Dome #10  Sucess!

The man made summit was under construction, but I was able to find the top of the mountain and take a little stroll on the Appalachian Trail on the way back down.

Went with family when I was little, found a picture in my mother's scrapbook labeled with the date. So, I figure I might as well add it.

HP #21  Sucess!

Last of a 5 HP trip in the south (MS,AL,GA,SC,TN). Wind chill had to be in the low teens. Nice views of the Smoky's. 1007 miles of driving, 20 hrs. Scenic areas, interesting road trip. No matter the quality of the summits, it is still a pleasure to see different parts of the country. Headed back to Nashville for the flight out..

HP #14  Sucess!

This was our 14th Highpoint and the second one on this trip which included five more. It was bit cloudy on top so did not see a whole lot. Might have to visit this one again.
