Like being on an island in an ocean of clouds!

Awesome photo! This is one of my favorite photos on this site! Is there any way to tell when it's like this up there and not just completely whited out? Thanks!

Re: Like being on an island in an ocean of clouds!

This was easily one of my most enjoyable days hiking in Colorado. I left my home in the southwest part of town with the Springs socked in with clouds. I guess the best way to tell if Rosa is above it all is if the clouds in the Springs are low level. If they are at or below the level of the Will Rogers Shrine on Cheyenne Mt. then I think you have a better chance of climbing above the clouds on Rosa. The other thing to do is check out the Pikes Peak webcam. If the tourist trap summit is in the sun, then Rosa may be peaking out of the clouds as well. Great mountain!

Thanks for the info! The webcam is a great idea! After some research, I also discovered that weather underground dot com displays the elevations of the clouds as well as the cloud ceiling elevation (for pilots). Also, what time of day did you go up there? Well hopefully, being armed with all this info, I'll have a better chance of seeing it like that. Once again, awesome shot!
