From Tenaya Lake  Sucess!

Beautiful hike up from the lake, though it seemed like we spent a lot of time giving back elevation that we then had to gain again. Stunning view of Half Dome and the Tuolomne Valley.

From Tuolumne Meadows  Sucess!

Came upon Cloud's Rest on a three-day loop hike from Tuolumne Meadows back in 1992, with my ex. Didn't know it was a summit, per se, but figured with a name like "Clouds Rest" it had to offer pretty views, so we headed that way: of course, it's so long ago now that I have no idea if I was right or not.

from Tenaya Lake  Sucess!

Final mountain of a 60-peak, 43-day summer tour. A fitting end, as Cloud's Rest is a classic viewpoint of a spectacular place.

Tenaya>C.R.>H.D.>Happy Isles  Sucess!

Cloud's Rest is definitely better than Half Dome. We met 4 others on top of Cloud's Rest while Hundreds tried to jam up the Half-Dome cables. The view at CR is much better. Trail note: There is a good spring on the switchbacks below The Pinnacles. Also the Half Dome trail spring has fantastic water and runs good all year round.

My favorite things  Sucess!

with Karen, start 4.30, start climbing 8am, finish route at 3pm, go to summit, eat, leave summit 4pm, back at car 7pm.
A fun day out, great views of Half Dome. Ratings little soft.

Dayhike from Tenaya Lake  Sucess!

Great dayhike. Trail was mostly covered with snow, navigated via a combination of previous tracks and tree markings. Helped two parties regain the trail after losing their way. Views from the summit have to be some of the best I have ever experienced. Highly recommend this peak for the best views of YNP!

Tenaya Flood  Sucess!

The first 100 yards of trail was a foot under water. The route up the ridge was a snowy waterfall. The right sole of my abused old boots fell off as I reached the top. But it was the top, AND LIFE WAS GOOD. A little medical tape 'saved my sole' on the way down.

From Tenaya Lake  Sucess!

Hiked up from Tenaya Lake on a beautiful fall day. Other than two guys I met on the summit who came up from Happy Isles, I didn't see anyone else all day.

From Happy Isles to Tenaya Lake  Sucess!

We took our time. Just over 11 hours from trailhead to trailhead. Really great view from the summit. I cannot believe how squeamish people are when it comes to walking along the summit ridge. Even my two hiking buddies were really freaked out about it.

Backpack from Tuolomne

Climbed as part of Sierra Club backpack. Started from Tuolomne, spent first night at Nelson Lake, then cross country to Sunrise Lake (first lake) for overnight. Then 3rd day, day hike to summit Clouds Rest. 4th day hiked out to Tenaya Lake and took shuttle back to car. Wonderful view, although was lots of smoke in the air from fires near Santa Barbara.

Tenaya Lake  Sucess!

Sure the trail up to half dome is beautiful and the summit is legendary, but Clouds Rest imho has better views and a lot less crowds making this my favorite between the two.

From Tenaya Lake  Sucess!

Nice long walk. Amazing views, as others have said. Didn't see too many people along the trail on the way up (saw more on the way back), though the summit had a decent crowd of overnighters and such.

One way from Tenaya to the Valley  Sucess!

I think this summit is actually more scenic than Half Dome! The hike is dramatic, on the narrow ridgeline you look down the deep canyon and can see for hundreds of miles on a clear day. You can hit both CR and HD on a comforable overnight from Tenaya Lake down to Happy Isles. Well worth it.
