A 2715 m mountain in the Marmolada group, Dolomites. (Actually, Colàc falls in this group just because of proximity, as actually it is clearly distinct both from the Marmolada massif and from any other neighbouring mountain). One way to reach it (the way we did it) is to start from the Ciampac moutain hut (m 2170) and climb up the ferrata dei Finanzieri (medium difficulty, some three hours from Ciampac) on the northwestern side of the Colàc, then, after reaching the summit, one can go down the path (also equipped with steel cables) that descends the southeastern side, then follow paths no. 613 and 644 to Ciampac. The grasslands in the last part before Ciampac are full of marmots. From Ciampac to Penia (m 1500) most of the descent is on a steep ski slope.
On the peak of the Colàc (summit cross, not very firm) the panorama ranges from Catinaccio/Rosengarten group and Sassolungo/Langkofel massif to Sella Group, Marmolada Group, Mesola and Costabella plus others more in distance.
30 august 2013.
