Who is the vision-impaired SPer?This is a gorgeous shot. But apparently some self-appointed photo critic votes on the basis that it wouldn't win a photo contest???? So what's wrong with it. The color is good. It's sharp. The composition is good. So what's missing?? Hey, it's not Ansel Adams, but IMO, this one is

Re: Who is the vision-impaired SPer?Thanks Bob for your comments. One of the reasons I particularly liked this pic was that is showed Colchuck from a rarely photographed angle. The other interesting thing was the change in the color of the water from this viewpoint, it lost its aquamarine color you see from almost everywhere else.
Ansel Adams, I met him once in Yosemite. He was blocking the trail I was on, trying to take a picture of a leaf.

Re: Who is the vision-impaired SPer?I hadn't seen this photo before and it is indeed gorgeous. The one critique that I see is that it has been overly sharpened. This makes everything look pixelly and sort of gives it an ugly graininess that wasn't there before. A little less sharpenning would have improved things more. YMMV.

Re: Who is the vision-impaired SPer?I would agree that sharpening can be overdone. I am certainly guilty of it in some of my other pics. This one was a little trickier to deal with. One of the reasons I resharpened it was after re-sizing it down from 2272 x 1704 to a 640 size, the pic was very flat and fuzzy. I use Thumbsplus and used the minimal sharpening setting that is allowed, the "sharpen even less" setting. Having the choice between the fuzzy pic vs. the sharpened, even grainier one that I have posted, I went with the latter. I appreciate your commentary and it helps serve as a reminder that we all see these pics a little differently. Thank you for being willing to make a comment.

Re: Who is the vision-impaired SPer?This photo is definitely oversharpened and possibly resized instead of resampled. You might try using a more capable and configurable program to resample and sharpen it.

Another spectacular photo! Dean, you really seem to get around! I remember hiking to Colchuck in 1986 from Icicle Creek. Back then, there were very few hikers/climbers around during the week.I think I did see climbers on Colchuck Peak back then. Could barely make them out!
By the way, how many actual hiking miles is it from the south side of the lake to the summit of Asgard Pass? Great perspective of the lake!!! Always love your photos.
