the copeland boulder hop  Sucess!

easily the most strenuous, unrelenting boulder hopping i've ever encountered. copeland's north face may look like a nice day, but beware of the thousands of boulders one will be forced to cross en route. yuck!

Slog is an understatement  Sucess!

...but I do like an occasional slog. A well packed boot track most of the way to Ouzel Lake combined with good weather made this December ascent possible. Something like 14.5 miles RT from the winter parking, 10.5 hours car to car. Awesome views of Longs/Meeker.

Cross country from Ouzel falls  Sucess!

A long day cross country from Ouzel falls with Kevin (shknbk). RT mileage was about 12.5mi. Plowing through feet of powder made for a 13h epic. Windy and cold on top but clear skies with great views!

East Ridge  Sucess!

5/13/07 - This was my first trip to the Wild Basin area and I have to admit that I was highly impressed. Area was still covered in snow. Left trail at Ouzel Falls and headed SW through the trees to gain Copeland's east ridge. On the way back we descended to Ouzel Lake and followed the trail from there.

1/10/2015 - From Allenspark Trailhead. Hiked to Pear Lake and climbed a short south facing couloir to gain the east ridge. Amazingly hard and consolidated snow for January!

Up from Ouzel Lake down via Pear Lake  Sucess!

Total acents = 2. First time from Wild Basin Ranger Station, up via Ouzel Lake, down the south slopes (a little cliffy in places) to Pear Lake and back to the ranger station via the Finch Lake Trail. 2nd time from Ouzel Lake and back the same way.

Route: From Ouzel Lake  Sucess!

I climbed this solo from the Ouzel Lake side. I saw another climber decending below me on the east ridge as I was going up the north east side. When I finally reached the summit after the long (unending) tundra slope I couldn't get the lid off of the summit register, so I took a self timed photo of myself and a panorama from the summit. Even though it is not difficult climbing it is a long day with 4646ft of elevation gain.
