With Lee. A marmot stole my black North Face Thermoball up there. Lil fker.
Started at Timber Lake TH, hiked to the valley separating Jackstraw and Ida and bushwhacked to treeline, then traversed Ida, Chief Cheley, PT 12820 and Cractop to Julian. Lots of scrambling and interlocking grass ledges from Cractop to Julian, fun stuff! Also climbed Jackstraw and Gray Jay on the way down, long day! Lots of wildlife: elk, deer, moose and bighorn all present today!
Pretty straight forward. You can either stay on the ridge across or drop to Highest Lake and head back up. Either way it's not much more than a walk.
Did the cirque from Ida to Terra Tomah. Windy, but beautiful September day. I would do this again just for the solitude.
I would love to checkout Crack Couloir sometime!
Then dropped down to HIghest and Azure Lakes and up to Jagor Point, Sheep Rock on the way back
Total ascents = 4. First time on a long one day traverse from Milner Pass to Bear Lake. The summits that day included Ida, Chief Cheley, Cracktop, Julian, Terra Tomah, Sprague and Flattop.
Cracktop was my 79th Rocky Mountain National park summit. We came over Ida and continued to Terra Tomah. It was long a memorable day and a half in the park.
Super fun terrain! We climbed Cracktop on route to Bear Lake from Milner Pass.
Great mountain and a fun scramble from Chief Cheley. Looks like the "crack couloir" would be loads of fun!
