I have hiked this trail a few times when I lived in WNC
Dennis Goldsmith and I made this our introduction to the Blue Ridge Parkway on a sunny morning with a nice cool breeze.
Hiked with my wife and had my daughter in the backpack.
It's a nice rest stop when you're driving. You get out and climb a hill. Excellent.
We saw a wedding in the little glade above the parking area.
Great views in Fall weather. Views from the Smokies to Asheville to Mt Mitchell and points north.
Not certain exactly where the closures were on the BR Pkwy, we got a little more than we bargained for in this hike. We started at the Craggy Gardens Picnic area near Bear Pen knob. We had to actually hike along the road and through the Craggy Pinnacle tunnel. It was a lovely day, though. I sat up on the windy summit enjoying my lunch looking at ALL THOSE OTHER MOUNTAINS to summit...
First "climb" for my 3 year old daughter
Great views-- first time up there even though I'd been by it many times before. The crowded parking lot had always kept me away.
Reached the top with a quiet hike through the cloud forest.
Bagged Craggy Pinnacle with Craggy Dome. Also met another Carolina Grad and his girlfriend at the summit of Craggy Pinnacle.
My niece and I stopped after hiking deep gap. Nice and easy trail with great views.
Love to visit this spot during the rhododendron bloom!
A great peak along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
