Started high up
Went up in an SUV and hiked a 2 mile loop. Found some great rocks!

fun fall hike
hiked up Crystal Peak via the northeast face. We drove to approximately 4700' and then hiked 3000'+ to the summit via roads, ridges, and bushwacking. Found snow up to a foot deep - pretty impressive for this early in the year.
There were tons of animal tracks around, and my friend Tim called it an animal "playground". We noticed some mountain lion tracks over our prints on the descent.

via northern access road
This was the 6th peak that my wife and I climbed on our vacation in northern Tahoe. For us this was basically a bonus peak after climbing Adams to the south. As it turned out, it has a spectacular finish in that the summit is solid quartz. There are fragments all aroundT the summit that are so pure that they are nearly transperent. The road to the summit is only passable by the well equiped, very high clearance 4x4 or OHV, but this summit road is fairly short from the junction and can be hiked up and down in less that one hour.
